My friends Jaguar xj6 1997 won start or crank. Drove car to work. Didnt start on the way home. Tried **** the gear stick. Inertia switch ok. Locked with key, held to set alarm, unlocked and turned key....didnt start. Got power to fuel relay fuse. Fuel pump dont start when key is turned. Did connect power to the white cable on the back of the valve cover that cranced the starter so solenoid and starter is ok. Tried both keys. What to do? Heard something about ground fault with the starter. Or the positive connecting?

SOURCE: car wont start

It sounds like this could be a common problem - usually this is caused by the crank sensor going out/bad. The sensor is mounted to the timing cover on the front of the engine.
The crankshaft sensor provides both engine speed and crankshaft position signals to the ECM. The sensor is a variable reluctance device, consisting of a bobbin coil with a magnetic core. The resistance of the coil is approximately 1.35 kilo ohms . The steel teeth on the crankshaft timing ring are used as a rotor. As the rotor teeth pass by the crankshaft sensor, pulses are generated.

The rotor has 60 tooth positions set at intervals with three teeth missing. The gaps identify the TDC position of the 6 cylinders during one complete engine cycle (two crankshaft revolutions). The rotor thus provides both engine speed and crankshaft position information to the ECM. The missing pulses identify crankshaft position. Each tooth pulse after the missing pulse represents of crankshaft rotation. Thus the frequency of the toothed pulses are a measure of engine speed.

SOURCE: car wont start, acts like

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.

If the inertia switch is activated, what does it affect on a 2003 Jaguar S-Type please?

It cuts power to the fuel pump when the car suffers crash damage.

The inertia switch is located in the footwell behind the trim on the right-hand side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the fascia. A finger access hole allows the driver to reset the switch.

There is a fuel inertia switch..that is the law.. It is located either outside by the connections to the fuel pump or on the pump itself. I doubt that is the problem as you say the pump is pressurizing. May be a security system issue or pcm issue.. GM cars are very sensitive to voltage changes of any type...Take it back to the mechanic.

Won't start after airbags deployed? (NOT inertia switch)

Assuming the pump has not died, you should be able to jumper the pump relay.
The lite blue and orange wire should be power from the fuse, and the dark green and yellow wire should go to the inertia switch then to the pump.

2000 explorer won't start cranks OK, drove it to the store with no problems got back in won't turn over to start.

Try some starting fluid, if it wants to run then you need to check the Inertia switch. The location of this switch is behind the passengers foot kickpanel.

There is a Reset button that you push and it will reconnect the fuelpump. Please rate my info. You can try the Reset without testing with starting fluid but the fluid verifies fuel starvation as the problem.

If you don't hear the pump running, it's likely not the fuel filter. However, you'll need to determine if the pump is getting power when it will not start. There should be a fuel pump inertia switch identified in the owner's manual. It's likely near the passenger side kick panel inside the truck. This is typically a convenient place to check for voltage from the fuel pump relay to make sure voltage is getting to and through the switch. There have been a fair number of folks that have had issues with the inertia switch failing. If you have voltage through the switch for about a second after the ignition switch is first turned to the Run or Start position, then you need to find out if the power is making it to the fuel pump. If there is no voltage to the inertia switch immediately after they key is turned to Run/Start, then you need to work towards the battery.

i assume your car is@1997 a model/year x300 a common cause of the symptom you have is a corroded/open circuit wiring at a connector or around under the washer bottle filler white connector i think its the ok to start signal from the security/locking module located below trunk fuse box the module can also go faulty. one easy test is to switch ign on if the check engine light goes off with other warning lights. start there fault finding with the wiring etc
