Our oil light came on so we checked the oil.it was 2 quarts low so we put it in. oil light went off and we drove it about 30 miles then the oil light came on again. we stopped to eat lunch and then checked the oil-it was full so we started home. went a couple of miles and the oil light came on again then the tapits started making noise.we called a mechanic friend while trying to just get it to the next town and it just died right on the highway and would not restart. it sounded like the battery was dead when we tried to start it but its new. its a 2004 kia sorento with 76,700 miles'

First of all, oil expands when hot, so you cant check oil level when your car has been running. It sounds like your car is leaking oil. Check for leaks under the car. I would tow the car to a mechanic. If you are lucky it will just take an oilchange to get the car running. But you are likely looking at at least new gaskets/bearings and in worst case new priston rings.

2010 HHR runs rough after oil change, no power will not shift into next gearr and dies

Take your car to a real shop, not one with pretend mechanics, and have it evaluated by a qualified mechanic for engine damage. It sounds like they either forgot to put oil in, or didn't tighten the drain plug or filter and you lost most of your oil. If damage is found, and the qualified mechanic states that the damage could be due to oil starvation, file a claim with Meineke. Be prepared for a runaround (hundreds of YouTube videos on these ripoff shops - Meineke, Jiffy Lube, etc).

Oil Change two weeks ago and oil level is low already???

I assume you have no leaks as you say. Your van does hold 5 quarts of 10w30 oil with filter change. The level was 1/4" above the add mark, which is less than 1 quart low. You drove the van 1,300 miles so it is very possible that it could burn that much oil in that many miles without you seeing much smoke. Top it off and have someone else drive it. Have them get up to around 60 mph, then let off the accelerator and let it coast down to 30 mph, then accelerate fully while you follow in another vehicle. If your van is burning oil you will see a big puff of blue smoke when they accelerate after coasting. If you do not I would suspect you were cheated out of about 1/2 quart of oil. You would not be the first person this has happened to. Top it off and check as I described and then check the level after driving another 1,300 miles. If it is still full find another place to change your oil as the place you went are crooks.

Probably didn't hurt it, my 2002 was ran for 2000 miles 1 1/2 quarts low on oil due to dummies putting only 5 quarts of oil back in it after changing the oil. It takes 6 1/2 quarts. It didn't hurt it at all.

Oil usage in 2006 passat 2.0 turbo

I had the same problem with my wife's 2006 passat turbo. We lost 2.5 quarts in 3000 miles and the warning light came on. They put us on a 1000 mile oil test and I lost 1.8 more quarts of oil. They finally agreed to replace the rings. Service tech told me that the factory rings are defective, they begin to lead after about 25,000.
