My 2010 Mazda 5 is having engine ping/knock issues, the dealers cannot hear anything, but it happens since two months ago and I am sure it is the engine knocks, not anything else.
It happened when on high gear and low RPM, the noise will go away if I downshift it manually or step on gas. I tried on premium gas for the last two tanks, not sure what else can I do, please help.

It's called lugging, and it will happen with any manual trans car at low speed in a high gear. Nothing wrong -- it's a hint that you need to downshift . . .

I just had the same trouble in a 02 mazda millennia. found the SHORT.it was in the wiring of the drivers sun visor lights. no kidding, too simple. I hope yours is as easy to fix,,
Solution 1 would be to diagnose the problem of the low comp in 2& 3 and solve that issue. I would of started w the timing belt 1st. If that didn't solve it,ck head gasket, valves,rings. CK for oil & coolant mixing. Good Luck
To replace it is very very hard due to its location. BUT... it is quite simple to take care of if you understand what a knock sensor is. It is just a sound detector. It listens to the engine and if it hears detonation, then it signals. So you need a sensor that works, but if it hears nothing who cares? Thus, fixing the problem (you have a code) is easy. Buy a new knock sensor. Mount it to the body of the car anywhere that is grounded. Like the sheet metal above the engine manifold. Now reroute the wires that run to the old sensor to this new sensor. Leave the old sensor (now disconnected) where it is. You will need to get the manual (ebay) to locate the wires. Oh - the white wires turn yellow with time. That yellow wire is white. The new sensor operates perfectly, but it never hears anything. Problem solved. F&*K-off you guys at the DMV and the EPA!
Therre is no DTC code "5". The DTCs start at 12. If the knock sensor (there are actually 2) was bad, you would have an acceleration issue. The knock sensor changes the timing of the spark to eliminate detonation, or "pinging". Do you have a "Ping" condition/valve rattle on acceleration?
To reset the light, open the hood, remove the 15 amp EFI fuse for 5 minutes. Replace it, and start the car and drive it until it reaches operating temperature. If the light comes back on instantly, you have a bad sensor or a bad wire.
Remove the black octane shorting (one time timing ****** adjustment) bar located near the ignition module ( the connector the bar goes into looks like a fuel injector connector), this should stop the ping, make sure the right jumper is removed, if you pull the wrong one the truck will lack power, if you get the right one the ping will stop and you will feel no change, U may loose a little MPG. If you can't locate it the dealer will do it for little or no charge, just tell them you want the octane adjust short5ing bar removed, did many of them on trucks like yours, the 2300 has a pinging issue, they all do, Mazda and the Ford Ranger.
