II have a 1999 volvo v40 wiyh the 1.8 litre mitsubishi g.d.i engine, when the engine is first started it will idle steady at 1000 rpm but when it gets warm it will not idle, the revs go up and down and engine stalls.
at speeds of 65 to 70 mph it misses a beat now and again.i have already changed the engine temp sensor that provides the e.c.u with the constantly varying vaultage signal corresponding to the tempreture of the engine but this has made no difference.PLEASE HELP regards,Bill.
hii have same problem,do you found out whats wrong and what u do to resolve it??hii have same problem,do you found out whats wrong and what u do to resolve it??
Could have many causes, but a good start could be to have the oxygen sensor voltage output checked.(In exhaust system) This would explain why mixture/ variable idle speed occurs.

Normal idle speeds on modern cars are usually between 600 and 1000 rpm so the idle does not seem too fast. Most modern cars now use electronically controlled throttle bodies instead of carburettors and most throttle bodies are not adjustable.
The idle speed can run higher when the engine is cold as more fuel is added until it reaches working temperature. Let the car warm up to it's working temperature, usually about 10 minutes at idle.
Keep your feet off the pedals and check the idle speed. Listen to the engine. Does it sound like it is 'racing' like your using the accelerator pedal or is it struggling and almost stalling? If it is an even steady idle it is probably set correctly. Get a good mechanic to look at it if your worried.
Try to disconnect the Air Flow Meter. It is the first plug just before the air filter/air intake box. If this improves your situation you will need to source a new or aftermarket Air Flow Meter.
Not normal, clean burning engine, mine has 220,000 kms's. Are you using a full synthetic oil? Tried it a couple times and it took 1 litre between oil changes. I use semi synthetic oil, no issues. How long has it been burning this amount of oil? Get to your dealer and have him fix your engine.
