Top of the engine is ticking. friend told me it could be a valve that is clogged or stuck open and thats its not a huge problem but it might be mixing gas and oil. to me that sounds like a problme. websites say its "Ticking noise from the top of 3.2L V6 engine may be due to hydraulic lash adjuster failure caused by varnish deposits and using 0W-30 Mobil I synthetic oil has been successful in cleaning them." what is the most likly answer.

It sounds like hydraulic lifter noise. The lifters open and shut the valves and can be helped by using a good synthetic oil and frequent oil changes. Lash is the clearance between the valves and lifters.

I replace the fuel pump, i replace the starter, i replace 2 coils. The car start after a few tries but the revs does not pick up. What could be wrong?

my online manuals show no 330i here. 328i yes. so where are you,cars are not the same all over earth.

so engine has huge power loss and the transmission does not slip.
right>? RPM scream but MPH does not. is tranny slip.

now the short list of weak engines (otto cycle) 2011 answer (no year told)
  1. bad fuel
  2. all filters clogged even AIR
  3. bad spark plugs ,
  4. weak fuel pressure ,FPR bad. (regulator)
  5. clogged injectors (the injector balance test is done)!
  6. weak MAF.
  7. TBW failing DTC error told this and goes top limphome mode.
  8. spark boots and or cops bad ,(coil over plugs= cops).
  9. huge vacuum leak behind mAF makes for huge lean engine , seen main induction pipes crack and suck in un-metered AIR and goes super lean and lots of power lost. vacuum hoses cracked and sucking air.
  10. bad engine, we do all compression tests and for steady vacuum at idle hot.
  11. melted CATs , running super rich did it, CEL lamp in USA flashes to warn do not melt the CAT or go broke. fast.
  12. a bad EGR stuck open, if present. our E90 2011 does,!!! it must not stick open ever at idle. clean it?
bad engines have the higher count of parts bad
for sure any things the makes vacuum go nuts so goes EFI.
on cam chain bad, but it screams and tells you I AM bad.
coolant leaks to any combustion chambers
oil leaks to same.
a bent head valve. or stuck;
cracked or warped head.
we to a battery of tests to find it using up to 10 major tools.

Volkswagen Golf MK1 1.4 carb is starting after 10 minutes and cutting out?

MK1 is old. sure.and first ones did have a carburetor

the AFRICAN 1.4L? 2007 to 2009 pump to it dead, most are 5 to 7PSI pumpsfuelfilter to carb clogged, replace it.carb float stuck open or closed clean it or replace the float valve. and make sure level test is good.clogged, jets. from bad fuelclogged air tubes in carb. aka emulsion tube clean them all. or venturi nozzles clogged.choke bad, stuck closed or dead stuck open.huge vacuum leak below carb.or someone messed with carb and not its broken for lots of reasons. even missing parts. or wrong parts used.good luck

if tips are soaked in oil that means

3: or cracked head or piston.
we do a compression test , all; 4 same PSi (or bar) and 150PSI min.
if fails needs engine work.
4: PCV VALVE CLOGGED,AND CAUSES HUGE OIL BURN.
1 AND 4 ARE SIMPLE FIXES.

2002 GMC Sonoma 4.3 Vortec revs high when first started.

all cold engines race high ,engine cold and the more cold the more high RPM. 1500 is PAR for RPM cold, is yours higher?
black SOOT is a huge bad RICH sign. of greatly needed engine service.

IAC valve stuck open , RPM not regulated.

Fuel pressure was low, how low?, not told PSI
low does not cause rich burn but sure lean burn and misfire sure.
spec is.fuel real PSI test is 60-66?psi. RUNNING engine.
if not pump or FPR are bad. yes pumps can fail weak easy.
the test is called the Injector fuel pressure balance test in the SM, service manual.
the rules are.(gas)_
1: good engine, (compression at spec) EGR not stuck open and CATS not melted closed.
2: spark good, we can not burn fuel with dead or weak spark.
we call this a tune up,. (or doing the service points (today)
3: bad fueling, last fuel is last. in the due to Physics.
bad fueling can be caused by (short list)
bad MAF , or MAP, FPR, PUMP, or injectors leaking or clogged.
IAC stuck makes idle controls dead.
to find it take real tools , and gauges, a real scan tool , 2008 or newer OBD2 scan tool is best, for sure GM rated
GM has its own OEM factory codes. (vast)
or get the car serviced in a shop.,,, Bingo they have the tools!

96 honda civic dx location of PCV valve

Hi Jason , no vin told
no engine told of vast world wide.
no country told. PCV goes to top of valve cover on most engines
to suck the fumes off of there and burn them. a SMOG device.
dx-undefined-undefined-0.jpg our USA 96 has
a rubber grommet there and a PCV stuffed in there.
tell what engine is there.
and country if smart.

it loves to clog and make engine leak oil and engine burns oil;
replace it is best every 50k miles,
it is only a check valve.inside, simple as can be but clogs.

In the USA all cars here changed radially for 1996 year
manufactured after july1, 1995 for 96 marketed year.
OBD2 day we call that, even engine options before NOW GONE.

Tick over too slow. Idle speed.

hot engine, cold or both? hot is 180F+ !
ticks = idle speed, (very old name for idle, but im very old)
low idle speed has many causes. (over 50 in fact)
but has 3 modal causes:
1: ISC valve stuck. (idle speed control valve) clean it?
2: in limphome mode, suzuki cuts idle controls then. suzuki name officiall for this is Failsafe mode, CEL glowing , is it?
the check engine light on? ( ignored?)
3: engine power way to weak even egr valve stuck open.
#3 has vast causes... huge? we do simple tests to avoid guessing all 50.

this is pure physics:
engine weak, or idle controls dead.
do tell if engine has full power up hills. (kinda key that)
do tell if you press throttle its easy to get normal 800 rpm. or more.

Newly installed EGR Valve stuck open

A code P0411 means that there is insufficient flow in your secondary air injection system, this is totally separate from the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Has the vehicle been re-scanned? You should also know that if an egr valve is stuck open, the vehicle would be almost un-driveable, as it would create a huge vacuum leak.
If the same code is coming up, I would take a very close look at the hoses going to and from the injection pump. Check for any kinks or damage.

Valves in 2003 ford focus SE 2.3L are loose...how do I fix them?

I doubt if the valves are loose or need adjustment as the engine should have hudraulic tappets which adjust automatically when the engine is running. I suggest that your friend take off the rocker cover and see if anything is out of place. As the engine is 10 years old it is possible that the tappets may be badly worn and not working properly hence the noise

1992 ford bronco (full size)

that's a huge vacuum leak. Block off intake ^ spray a little starting fluid caefully around top of engine to find when engine revs. That will locate leak. Have a fire extinuisher nearby just in case. IAC could be stuck open.
