This new filter has probably affected the MAP/MASF sensor because the air flow has been altered . The word performance will be the clue so you may have to find a speed shop with a chassis dyno and have the chip remapped to the filter.
Well technically you have fuel in the engine if you are getting a backfire in the intake. I would say the fuel is getting thru the injectors. But maybe not at the right time. Has anything happened to the timing belt or cams ?
Both are under the hood and easy to get to. As for the Air Filter nobody beats K&N they are simply the best. Any fuel filter thats the right one will do.
