On some models of general motors starter shims are required to maintain
the recommended clearance between the starter and flywheel.
If not, then the starter will hang on the flywheel after motor is started and
damage it (The teeth are bottoming out when this occurs). They sell starter shims at
the auto parts store.
Hope this helps.

I have a 97 GMC 350 vortec that the starter motor kicks back. Its been at the locl shop know for a week Figured I'd research it a little

what exactly do you mean by "kicks back"
IN all engines if the engine fires hard against the rotation of the starter motor, it indicates that the ignition timing is way too far advanced
GM products are around the 10 -12 DEgrees BTDC static timing and any thing over that will cause problems
If the timing is right then I would be considering replacing the crank position sensor and/or the ignition control module

I have a 1996 GMC Sierra what engine wiring harness is interchangeable with this truck

I believe a 96-98 harness from any chevy or gmc would work. V8 to V8 not V6 to V8 the 305 and 350 would be the same harness

1996 gmc serria not gettin fire to pulgs sometimes and wont start other times starts right up 350 v8

I would say that you probably have some bad plug wires. Replace them and see if the problem goes away.

What is the bar the bolts to the block and then to the back of the starter and stops the starter from torqueing. its an 85 k5 blazer high output 350 v8

The bar is simply a brace. On one that old, it may be difficult to get from a dealer but you may find one in a scrapyard. Problem is that to save time, many techs used to leave it off when changing the starter...Most will work without it but if the engine kicks back due to a bit of moisture in the distributor cap or any other item that can cause a cross-fire, if it's not in place the starter nose will break.
If you can't find one you could actually make one using a piece of steel Any support there is better than none at all..

What size engine goes into a 1991 gmc sierra 2300

2300????? Huh. I though they were 1500, 2500. i could be wrong. ususaly in the 3/4 tonne vehciles, they have a small block V8. I hae seen quite often a 350 cubic inch...but, depending on your transmission and engine braket mounts, not to mention mechanic skills and fabrication abilities, you could put whatever you want in it...As i said, probably a 350 small block is what was in there...probably

GMC 350 V8 POWER STEERING DIAGRAM

The high pressure and low pressure hoses are different sizes at the gear box. And the low pressure /return hose is usually rubber with a clamp at the back off the pump.
