Hi, I have a Chev Metro 2000 Automatic that I am trying to pass the Calif Smog test. It passed to emission Test. It failed for (OBO Code)P0705 Trans Range Sensor Malfunction (PRNDL Input). The Service Check engine Light is on. Also, Can you explain, what controls the yellow level that helps to release the Gear Shift out of Park. I checked under the Console now I am stuck. I can see what could possibly control. I do not want to take anything apart before I know it is the right thing to do. Can anyone Help.

There is a diagnostic route on the PO705 code, which involves hooking up a scan tool, and verifying sensor functions. It can also involve checking continuity of the circuit, and PCM commands. The majority of the time, replacing the sensor in question resolves the problem, but after replacement, the sensor needs adjusting to be correctly aligned,to give the correct reading in each gear range. If replacing the sensor does not repair the problem, then it's down to checking the wires involved in the circuit for continuity. If the wires check out OK,then it's going to be checking the PCM (computer) for proper commands and outputs.Resolving the code will likely repair the problem you are having getting the vehicle out of Park. The "stuck in Park" problem has to do with the shift interlock, where you have to press the brake pedal down to disengage the shifter. It is possible you have two separate problems, but repair the PO705 code first, and see what happens with the interlock problem. The PO705 HAS to be repaired to pass inspection anyways.I guess i didnt explain, but the PRNDL switch is the sensor that tells the vehicle computer (PCM) which gear the trans is in..Park,Reverse,Neutral,Drive,Low (PRNDL).Good luck.

2000 Saturn SL2 fails smog due to failure of OBD Self test

Some vehicles require very specific drive cycles (called "drive traces" if you perform them on a road simulator or dyno) to activate certain self-checks like the catalyst and EVAP monitors. As a general rule, doing some stop-and-go driving around town at speeds up to about 30 mph followed by five to seven minutes of steady 55 mph highway speed driving will usually set most or all of the monitors. Consequently, if you're checking an OBD II system and discover that one or more of the monitors have not run, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle to set the remaining monitors.

You should talk to a good emission tec, if this is not throwing a code, it is hard to say if that one of the components could be bad. O2,pump,convert, HeO2, every part of the emission system.

With a 1000 miles, and doing what is says above just before the test, and ending driving at the test
should be plenty. If it is not, you will have to have each emission part checked, or when the computer
is plugged in it might show a code that did not trip dash light.

Hi, my car today failed in smock check, the emissions test fail, and I don't know how to read de results, can you help me to read and fixed the problem?

Go to AutoZone or Kragen and get a $9.00 bottle of PASS ANY SMOG TEST or double
your money back (keep your receipt). You just pour it into your gas tank at a FILL UP and run
that gas down then refill your tank and take your Smog Test. It will pass. What state are you in??
What are your smog test numbers??
