I have a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.8 and recently replaced the upstream O2 sensor and now get a p0135 engine code. What is the problem? I used a Bosch sensor. I was able to clear out the code but then there are times I also get the p0132 code. I did exchange the sensor already and replaced it with the same brand. Do I need to use a different manufacturer for the O2 sensor?

Code p0135 refers to heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor 1 bank 1 heater control---circuit malfunction===causes wiring--fuse HO2S ---ECM
he brand should not matter as long as it it is a quality unit
what does matter is wire damage from not using the correct socket for the installation process that causes wire damage

SOURCE: code p0406 dodge grand caravan 3.8 engine. Is it

P406 is a EGR code, EGR will also cause a knocking/ pinging sound when there bad. Very common problem. The position sensor inside the valve goes bad. Your going to have to replace the whole EGR valve and it can put out variety of codes from P0401 to P0406. The new valve will solve the problem and easy to replace, you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the EGR with common tools. Good luck and hope this helps.

How to Diagnose a P0135 -Heater
Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1 (GM 3.5L)

image_1.gifIf your check engine light is on and you have a diagnostic trouble code P0135 stored in the PCM's memory... then you've come to the right place to test and troubleshoot the upstream oxygen sensor.
A P0135 DTC says: HO2S Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1... and this means that the PCM (Powertrain Control Module = Fuel Injection Computer) has detected a problem with the front oxygen sensor's heater element or a problem in the heater's circuit (wires).
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to check the oxygen (O2) sensor's heater element and the two circuits that feed it with power (10 to 12 Volts) and ground with a multimeter.
In case you're wondering, where the oxygen (O2) sensor that the code P0135 is accusing of being BAD is... this bad boy is located on the exhaust manifold and before the catalytic converter.
To help you navigate this article, here are its main points:

I have a dodge grand caravan wit the code p0135. internal controlmodule memorie check sum error no clue as to what it means please help

Code 135 should be a problem with the heater circuit for O2 sensor bank one sensor one. The O2 sensors have a heater to make them work as soon as the engine is started. The problem could be the sensor or the heater circuit.

2005 dodge grand caravan...engine light on and off, went to autozone diagnostic. replaced upstream 02, last year replaced downstream...engine light came back on. need help!

When "check engine" litgh tun on, the PCM (computer) is warning that some fault code is stored there. Autozone could scanned your PCM and show exactly what fault codes is there; if your O2 sensors was replaced, I assuming that they can see this codes... so, they reset and delete all codes stored there? Scanned the PCM after this change?

Need to know where O2 sensor is located on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan.

There are two oxygen sensors: one is upstream of the catalytic converter and one downstream of the catalytic converter. The oxygen sensor, or O2 sensor is usually located near the catalytic converter.Oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter in the exhaust system on the back of the engine. ------- Thanks.Helpmech

    P0155 & P0135

O2 sensors are tricky. sometimes like anything else they fail. many times though the exhaust mixture they encounter is out of their range and that shows up as a failure.since you seem to have no other problems , I would go ahead and change them, but don't be disappointed if the code shows up again (at least you know it's not the sensors.) I don't like using the process of elimination when doing repairs but sometimes you must.
