The first thing you need to do is scann the codes for the check engine light, the computer is always watching all systems when it sees a problem it stores a code with the problem and turn on the check engine light, for example in could have a code that reads po301 cylinder 1 misfire, you would then know cylinder 1 is misfiring and then with somw testing see why its misfiring. there are many auto part stores that will scan the codes for free and give you a print out with the codes, if you get the codes i can help you better. the charging gauge you will need to have the alternator checked to make sure its not over charging, if it is then that would turn the light on, good luck.

sound like might have a prooblem with the charging system. if the altenator is not charging the battery while driving then when the battery voltage gets too low (prob around 10volts) then the computers will shut down, then when jump started it gets some power back, and when the battery is charged will all work fine for a while.
does your model have the voltage gauge in the dash? should be over 12 volts when engine running, 14volts is a good charge rate. and should stay up above 12 all the time, with lights on air condon etc...
and altenators can be funny, work sometimes, and not atother times,

If the battery was dead after it stalled, then the alternator is not charging, check the alternator anyway,it needs to be charging for the engine to stay running.

Check guage light appears when I turn on the defrost and then vehicle hesitates or shuts down.

That's a pretty diverse question - but it actually sounds like there may be an alternator/charging system/battery problem. The defrost function draws a LOT of amperage, and if the battery is weak and/or not getting a charge; the vehicle may stall out.

Guages stop and irratic idle with dimming lights

what probley happened the alternator started to heat up alittle to much and caused the belt to spin on the pulley i would go ahead and get the alternator replaaced as soon as possible. as for the lights dimming and the gauges not working you was running off your battery making the vehicle mess up i would also get your battery checked while your at it.
