My BMW x3 2005 back door will not close. The latch doesnt seem to catch. We tried locking and unlocking the doors you can hear the mechanism working but latch is catching. Lock/latch seems to just spin when pushed manually. Other back door is not doing this. What is the cause?

Hold down the "open" button on your remote and simultaneosly pull the inside handle of that door open. I just had the issue with my driver's door and as my son tried to "help" (he's 9), one of the passenger doors also got stuck! After not finding a non-tech response, played around some until the the dran latch obliged on the front door. Repeated on passenger door and whew! :-)

SOURCE: Door not closing, mechanism not ingaging

I had the same problem of the door not closing because of that little mechanism locked down. I kept wiggling and poking the little mechanism and it finally let up after i just pulled open on the inside door handle. hope this helps.

Wit the door open, using a srewdriver, use it to throw the catch, then see if the latch locks into position. if it doesn't then a new catch will be required as the locking latch spring inside the latch would have broken

SOURCE: 1989 Camaro. Trunk latch will not catch and

Lube it up well & try a screwdriver in latch, the same way it would catch on striker on body and see if it snaps in and holds, if it doesn't, keep lubricating latch and try again until it does. Work key position in lock as well, to make sure it is actually in the latch position & not stuck in open position.When/if it does, and still won't hold closed, then you need to loosen bolts at latch and adjust a little at a time until it does.

SOURCE: front hood wont lock closed

you have a problem with your primary hood latch, your secondary latch keeps it from flying up into your windshield. inspect the pri. latch, it may have stuck and won't close. a thorough soaking with a good penetrating oil usually frees it up. if not you may have to replace the latch.

SOURCE: how do you adjust a trunk latch on a 03 Ford Focus

loosen all 3 bolts, then do them up so that they are pinch tight then push door to close as hard as you can, open door and tighten bolts, close door again to ensure no rattles/leaks and that door locks.keep adjusting till you get it right...

Passenger door open

BMWs have solenoid actuated door locks (electric box that sits on top of the door latch - some years integrated into latch) that electrically "deadbolt" the locks. The door panel will have to be removed with door locked/closed (may result in damage to panel), electrical mechanism removed from latch, and latch manually unlocked. It's a very effective theft deterrent system, but when it fails, it can be a severe pain. The failure is quite common; they should almost be a regular service/replacement item on BMWs.

Hope this helps,

Bmw drivers door only wont lock/unlock with key fob

Could be your driver door lock mechanism that is going bad , since the other door are working, it cannot be the fob. I would try to change the driver side door latch mechanism.

Door not closing, mechanism not ingaging

Hi. Have you checked the "child safety" catch the prevents the door being opened from the inside? That might be in the wrong position and causing a problem. I had a problem on my 93 Golf and I got it working again by exercising the catch mechanism with a screwdriver - pushing the locking mechanism- the greasy bit on the edge of the door - up and down numerous times and lubricating it again.

Hope this helps. If this "fixes ya", I'd appreciate a rating for my reply, If not, please delay the rating and add a comment with any extra info you have and I will try to think of something else.

Cheers, D.
