1991 Accord keeps dying less than 10 minute of driving

I replaced the sparkplugs and distributor because it was having problems starting or dying while driving or I'd get somewhere and it would'nt start back up unless I let it sit 20 minutes. It got progressivley worse and had it diognosed as the coil and distrubutor so i replaced it. Now it wont go a mile without dying and is taking even longer to get started.I've heard it could be crank position sensor?fuel pump?fuel pump regulator?master relay? please help, running out of resources.

Hi .....i recently bought a honda accord 1991 ex r .............it was running fine but all sundden one day its havd problems ........it would start up fine ........and driven for say 20 minutes then it...

These cars had two very common problems. #1 The pgmfi (main) relay has solder joints that go bad, I would repair or replace this first as they are not very expensive. It is likely your problem, if not, it will be one day so do it for maintenance if nothing else. # 2 is distributors. There are several components inside the distributor that can go bad, the easiest and cheapest solution in the long run is to just replace the whole thing with a new one (not rebuilt). Most aftermarket parts stores sell these fairly reasonably now.

Replace the relay. If that does not help, do the distributor. The ignition switches had problems as well, but they usually prevents starting...be ready for that one day as well.

My timing belt and water pump for Honda Accord 1990 was replaced and used the car for 2- 3 weeks. After driving about 15 minutes, entering the freeway, my car slowed down but the engine still running....

If you have never changed that distributor on your 1990 Accord, I would suspect it. Check for spark while cranking. The sensors inside the distributor would usually heat up, after 15-20 minutes of running, and would then die out, until the car is cooled off for a while. Look into that distributor.

Dies and will not restart for 5 to 10 minutes

This is likely due to a faulty ignition module or cam sensor located in the distributor itself. Replace the distributor as a unit to get the most bang for your buck. Exteremly easy to replace and runs about $185 from autozone.

91 Accord Car will initially start then when driving it will die sometimes starts right away sometimes 10 or 20 minutes later but has gotten more frequent about dying and taking longer to start

I have a 1991 honda accord dx that had the same problem. while driving it would just completely shut down. after about 5 minutes it start and run for a while then shut down again getting more frequently. There was a recall on the ignition control module (ignitor) which is in the distributor. call your local honda dealer with your vin # and will tell you if yours was replaced. If not I bought one from parts store for $60 or you could take a chance and buy one from a junk yard. I bought the whole distributor for $20 as a back up.
