When this is on, the traction system is disabled. A problem in the ABS system is usually the cause, and would have to be scanned for codes. Sometimes an engine problem that causes a check engine light will also cause the TRAC OFF light to come on. In this case, the PCM would have to be scanned for codes." line[number++] = "The security system on todays cars and trucks prevents the vehicle from being stolen. Replacing serpentine accessory belt. Is it necessary to remove motor mounting brace to remove and install new serpentine belt?

From my understanding I think you have to remove the motor mount and mount the engine to remove it because I have been asking different mechanics about the serpintine belt on my 1998 Buick Lasabre.

How do you change serpatin belt on 98 buick lesabre with a 3.8 liter engine..it looks like you have to take motor mount loose?

The manual has this step in it: "remove the engine mounting bracket lower nut, stud and spacer. Carefully lower the vehicle."

It never said to raise the vehicle, so I think there is an error here.
However, it is an indication that the belt needs to slip under the motor mount.

Recommend you put a floor jack under the engine, prop it up, remove the mount stud, and lower or raise the engine as needed to get the belt out.

If you don't have a floor jack, you can accomplish the same using the car jack on the regular jack point, jacking it up, and then putting some bricks and 2 by 4s under the pan. Then let the car down until the engine touches. Take the nut off the stud and raise or lower the car as needed to open a gap for the belt to pass thru.

OK? If you have more questions, please let me know.

Diagram for 1998 buick lasabre serpentine belt

I found the diagram in my owner's manual.
I replaced the belt on mine just 2 days ago. All you need to do is remove one bolt from the lower motor mount and remove the spacer. After you relieve the belt tensioner, the belt will slip right through the gap. Don't forget to support the engine before removing the bolt. As a backup I took a photo of the belt with my digital camera beforehand... just in case.
