I had this same problem and put a switch inside the car to turn on the relay remotely. But I believe it is the connection at the temperature sensor near the top of the transmission. My wires were stretched at this sensor from the factory. I have not tried to replace it rework it but if you used an ohm meter you could determine if the wires and or sensor have continuity. This is not the same sensor that runs the temperature gauge in the dash.

SOURCE: starter

if by bypass you mean the ignition switch. jump it at the relay, find the starter relay the relay should have a diagram on the side and numbered posts on the bottom with a jumper wire you can jump the post in the power distribution. look at the diagram there should be a switch which shows normally open you need to jump the posts that would close this switch and this will jump you starter make sure you key is on to start the vehicle. hope this helps some

SOURCE: myservice engine light came today rogh in idle at light rpms seem a little high this is a 98 saturn sl2 I think engine is a 1.9

the check engine light means that a code has been set. the code will reference a faulty system that must be diagnosed and repaired. sorry for the vagueness, but there are e gads of codes that can cause the rough idling

most aftermarket parts places will scan the car for free. this will give you an idea of where to start.

SOURCE: AC not working in 98 Saturn SL2

Did it gradually get warmer over the years or just recently. If it just happened then you could have a leak in the system or a compressor that died. Pressure test the system and verify that the compressor is working. You may get lucky and just need a recharge but more than likely you have a leak somewhere in the system.

SOURCE: where the location of the starter relay on a 98

It is mounted directly to the starter. You have to get under the car to see it.

How does the cooling fan run

The engine has to be at a temp level to set the coolant temp switch to on, located on the engine, block or head, depending on the engine. Once the switch is on it connects the circuit to the fan relay in the under hood fuse box, which power in turn travels to the another fan relay box attached to a bracket on the battery. the power is than transferred to one of the 2 fans. You can test by jumping the relay or powering the correct wires to the fan motor. Easiest way in my opinion is to jump the circuit in the fuse box with a paper clip. look at the relay for the relay on. I recall jumping from 85 to 30.

2002 jeep liberty p1491

Hi there:

P1491 is for the cooling fan relay control circuit as you've found already.Start by checking the fuse for the fan relay. Its in the box under the hood, a 40 amp fuse.If you've got a couple jumper wires, you can unplug the fan connector and carefully jump the fan to see if it works. The fan connector is on the right side of the back of the fan shroud. Unplug it and jump the black wire to ground and the green to positive. You've got to be very careful doing this though-you are in very tight quarters, its not hard for your jumper wires to touch each other in the connector and short together, and if you use small diameter jumper wires they will get hot quickly when the fan comes on.If the fan doesn't come on when you jump it, or if it runs slow or sounds bad, you've got a bad motor and will need to replace the fan assembly. One thing that does happen somewhat often, is a bad fan motor will burn up the relay. If the fan motor is drawing too much current it will overload the relay and burn it up. This is why its so important that if the fan motor runs slow or makes noise that you replace it, or you may end up burning up relays frequently. If the fan runs and the fuse is good, its very likely you just need a fan relay. This is a pulse width modulated relay, not the on/off clicker type you'd find in the fuse box. This unit is capable of infinite speed control. It gets very hot in operation, so its mounted to the body sheet metal to allow heat to dissipate through the sheet metal. The relay is mounted under the right headlamp held down with two 8mm screws. To get to it you have to remove the front bumper cover and headlamp bracketry to access the relay. These relays are pretty common.

Hope helps.

Does a 95 cutlass supreme have a fuse for the cooling fans or only the relays. I dont see a fuse for the cooling fans. Neither fan is coming on, Ive jumped the fans they both work, Ive changed out the...

There are three fuses and two relays for your coolant fan. They should all be in your underhood fuse box. They may not be marked "coolant fan", so check them all, (2) 60 amp , (1) 20 amp, (1) 15 amp. If all the fuses are good, you may have a bad fan switch (temp sensor). It tells the fan when to turn on, follow the wire from the fan motor to find it.

Cooling Fan Not Working

FIRST THING TO DO IS DISCONNECT THE FANS SENSOR ON THE ENGINE, THIS WILL THROW THE FAN INTO DEFAULT AND IT SHOULD COME ON, IF IT DOESN'T EITHER THE FAN MOTOR IS DEFECTIVE OR THE RELAY IS DEFECTIVE, OR BOTH, A SHORTED MOTOR WILL FRY A RELAY. DOES IT COME ON WITH THE AC TURNED ON?
