I have a grand cherokee limited 1996. Every winter when the temperature drops below -5F, most of the time, during the night the battery lost it's charge.

To avoid morning starts problems, I bought a battery charger that goes on and of depending the need of the battery. After a few days, by cold weather, my gages were going on and off and the radio too. I'm still looking for te solution.

Check VSS Vehicule Speed Sensor wire may be corroted, bad connection or faulty; if 2wd the adaptor is located on the extension housing of the transmission (left side)
if 4wd look on transfer case extension (left side)

Good luck

You can also check ( this did solve the problem ) bad ground wire located on left lower side of engine a few ground wires are screwed on a side post and one was corroted and was holding only by a thread. When riding on bumpy road fuel gauge, rpm and speedometer were kicking on and off.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport cluster issues

There is a ground to the cluster to the body that is not contacted. It has most likely disconnected from the cluster some where. The cluster can not make a connection threw,it has positive dc voltage, but not negative,it would have to be in the plug to the cluster.Finding the ground on the back of the cluster will be a procedure of visual happening .Look for the circuit on the back that looks like tracks running every where.Look for the track that all the components have in common. It will be the one circuit(track)that is broken in the circuit(track)or the plug in.There will be two of them. The circuit you are looking for will be ground(check with test light)With the test light grounded, touch the circuit you think might be the ground .The test light will light up,but kind of dim,and look at the gauges, and they will be working,if so,ground that circuit to the body somewhere.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.

if the a/c line exploded and it the juction box and it arced chances are you got a voltage spike to the ecm and fried it that would explain the the rough running and the cluster going nuts. you can get a replacement ecm at a salvage place for around 200 bucks maybe less. for get the dealership your going to pay alot more. if you check the ecm i'm sure you will find the main plug probably burnt too. please rate this thanks and good luck.
