Sounds like either a weak battery [ may not be getting recharged by the alternator ], or a starter thats about to die. If it dosen't drag and starts fine with a jump, look at the battery & charging system.

Sounds like your battery is starting to go bad, not producing enough amps to turn the starter over properly. Have your battery tested and replace if below specs.

SOURCE: DRIVE FEEL

Just a thought on this is could be that you have a bad universal joint on that wheel. The poping could be the slack warn components in the universal join baning from one side of the encasements as you move from driving the wheel forward to braking and hence using the wheel to slow the vehicle down.

You may check by putting the car in park and jacking the car up on that wheel and seeing how much play there is in the wheel linkage as you rotate it round it clockwise and anticlockwise but this will not making the popping sound in the same way as having the whole car wait resting on the joint as you are travelling along.

If it is the Universal Joint (Constant velocity Joint / CV Joint) it's a very serious condition that needs to be fixed and is a potential hazard to you driving the car. I would get it to a garage to have it checked.

Also it could be be a very worn ball join that is allowing the wheel to run out of alignment and hence makes it feel like its dragging. Again if you jack the car up while in park and try and move the wheel as if the wheel was being turned by the steering wheel - if you can feel play in the assembly here - and the wheel clonks as you pull it in and out you need a Ball joint replaced. Again its serious and should not be left too long to get it fixed.

Its possible if you have had the brakes worked on recently that the brakes could have been put together wrongly but I would go with the other checks first. Also it could be a bad tire that going through some sort of tread separation but test the CV joint and the ball joint first.

Regards

SOURCE: is300 slow to start, drove a few miles, turned

It sounds like the battery and if you continue cranking it with low amps it can also damage the starter. You ccan take it to any auto parts store and they will come out in the parking lot and check your charging system and battery for free then you will be sure what is wrong.

SOURCE: 2001 Toyota Echo sounds like metal dragging/trouble shiftinga nd accelerating

Nothing to do with your alternator. Transmission sounds possible. Also possible CV joints (constant velocity) - or your front wheel drive drive shaft(s). The mystery fluid leak is a definite concern. What was texture/color/amount of fluid? Where specifically did it come from?

The "gurgling sound" is a new one to me. ???

The CV joints is an easy check. Get under vehicle and grasp the drive shaft (one on each wheel) and give a good yank towards/away from you. If there is good resistance - or feels pretty solid, your shaft is probably OK. If it moves a whole bunch, it is probably broken and needs replacement. While you are there, check around the rubber ***** that is close to the wheel and make sure it is not ruptured or torn or missing. Anyproblems with this ***** only means inevitable replacement soon. (Some models have replacement boot kits, but I have never had any luck with them.)

I try to start my Nissan Altima 2006 and its like the starter is dragging I replaced the starter but still does the same can someone help me please

Was any major work done to it recently? If not find some who has experience and ask them to take another car and use 24 volts to start it once and it may start and be fine. When I rebuild engines I have to do this sometimes. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE PERSON KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

2003 Chevy Silverado is making a clunking noise, on and off sometime over bumps. Also a deep grinding type noise in the same location while driving not constant

Hello Karla,

It sounds like you may have a bearing or CV joint going out. Your vehicle will need to be jacked up and inspected. It may be more than one problem too. Its possible the dragging noise could be something between brake pads and rotor, but the grinding that comes and goes in reference to direction sounds like a bearing or joint. I would take it to a professional right away and ask for an estimate only, and then get other estimates from other shops as well. Good luck to you.

If it runs fine and the idle is the only problem you could try idling it up some with the idle set screw on the throttle body it sounds like it may be a little bit out of time those toyotas have a fine lins on the timing.

Our 1997 Lumina has sporadic starting problems. Sometimes for no apparent reason it won't turn over. The lights come on, but the engine won't turn. Other times it works fine

sounds like either a loose battery or corroded battery terminal. if not that, you're starter may be going bad.sometimes they drag slow when going bad.sometimes they get hot and won't restart the car until they cool down completely.this may be your problem. if you're mechanically inclined, auto zone or advance auto parts will check the starter for free, but you have to remove it from the car in order for them to test it.theres no other way to test it other than remove it from the car. hope i've been helpful and thank you for choosing fixya.com
