I did not have the light dimming thing but I had the same problem with the idle... frustrating.

I picked up a repair manual at the parts store. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner spray. I changed the Idle Air Control Valve (idle speed motor) which was very clogged. While I had the throttle body off I also changed the Map Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. The manual will walk you through the steps. I had never done anything like this before. If I can do you so can you.
My Jeep has never run better. Good Luck

98 cadillac deville, think alt is bad car says battery not charging but after that the traction control light comes on and the air bag light is this normal?

Low voltage does really strange things to the control modules, so replace the alternator, clear codes, charge the battery and drive on.

'05 Buick Rendezvous alternator charges, but turns on the battery light on the dash. Trouble code P0620 is set.

First check voltage on your battery with a multimeter a fully charged batt should be 12.6 bolts . Disconnect the battery from the car check voltage, second tyical voltage regulator maintain voltage between 13.5 and 15.5 . 15 when cold and 13 when hot. The regulator allows higher voltage to force electrons into you batt. If batt voltage is under12volts change batt. Is your regulator does not maintain 13 or above change alternator or alt regulator. Good luck

Battery light on, got new alt., starter tries to engage, but doesnt

Did you have the charging system diagnosed or did you just guess at it being the alternator . The charging system is computer controlled . The starter isn't working because low power , battery dead . Is there B+ voltage at the wire on the back of the alternator .B+ voltage at pin 3 at the connector pluged into the alternator .
Charge the battery use a volt meter an test for B+ voltage at the places i mention . No check engine light ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .

I would have everything tested first. Thats usually free at most auto part stores. It does sound like your alternator is starting to fail or possibly your battery.

The car died lights went dim then engine cut out with the key on there is no batt light on the dash. I unpluged the 2 wire conector at the alt and started the car after I charged the batt. still no batt...

sounds like you either have a loose wire that is preventing the alternator from charging the battery and keeping you going or the alternator has a bad diode. Take it to an auto parts store and have them test both battery and alt while the car is running.

Battery light stays on.

If you disconnect the battery for 20 min it should kill all memory and reset everything. If not you charge is still low charge up your batt. with a charger.and test your alt. output 13.9-13.7 you have to check the book.I'm not to sure on that. You might have a voltage regulator problem bad batt. Or somthing is hooked up wrong. Mabey the old alt was fine. Have the batt. tested. All alt. well most are rebuilts so you might have a bad one it happens.Make sure that it's putting out a charge.
Loose alternator drive belt or loose or corroded battery cables. The battery itself may also be bad.

Alternator f-150

replace the link between the alternator and the positive side of the battery. This is a fusable link and sometimes can cause this problem this would be the easy fix and is hard to test

When I turn the ignition on the battery light comes on and the voltage gauge drops between 9 & 14. Then it slowly goes up to around 14. I replaced the battery. Alternator??

take volt meter check voltage on batt.while truck is idling, voltage should be between 13.5-14.5v,turn headlights on it should stay in that range if it goes below, check for bad wire connection at alt.,if conn. are ok,theres a good chance alt. not charging properly!before doing test make sure batt.is full charge!
