This works on any visor. Obtain a small clamp as used in wiring harnesses. On the shaft end of the visor, 1/2 inch from the end, install the clamp around the visor and the shaft. Drill a hole through the visor for the clamp screw and tighten as needed. I might be a redneck, but it works!!
There is a T74 Campaign that applies to this problem. it covers 06-07 sonatas if you live in the southern states. the humid temperatures causes the hinge to crack. if your car is under warranty, it will be covered under 5/60
I had the same problem in my 06 Sonata. The mechinism in the fisor that creates tension to hold it in place broke. It seems there is a certain position that if you try to rotate up or down, it cracks and goes limp. $115 for new one.
I had this problem, called the dealer and they replaced it within 20 minutes. I have a '06 Sonata, still under warranty. The service tech said he's been replacing the sun visors at a rate of aprox. 2 a day! He didn't even have to order it for me, they had a stock of them.
Same thing happened on my '07 Sonata SE. Frustrated and disappointed.
File a complaint with NHTSA. I did. Please file a complaint!
Same thing happened to my girlfriend's sun visor on her '08 Sonata. I ended up just ripping the viser off.. which I don't think helped much, but at least it's not falling in her eyes. I thought I'd really done a number on it, but after reading these comments it seems like a kind of common problem with this car. Thanks.
My 2006 Hyundai Sonata did the same thing - just clicked and broke one day. I "fix" it by pushing the visor all the way to the windshield, pulling out the visor extender (the slide out part that comes out of the middle), and resting that against the rear view mirror. It's temp, but keeps it out of my line of sight!
2006 Sonata, 63K miles - My driver's side visor broke as well! As well as the seat in the back will not lock in place (hardly ever used), air bag light is on, seat belt light is constantly blinking, cruise control works when it wants to. These are the worst cars ever! Now I am finding out that Coastal Hyundai in Melbourne Fl financed more than I signed for - I am awaiting the Bank to send me all the paperwork, their numbers are different than mine are!
I also have a 2006 Sonata with a sun visor that will not stay in the up position. This is extremely dangerous. I think if all of us wrote to Hyundai and informed them of this problem maybe they will recall it. This problem can easily cause an accident, and if Hyundai had knowledge of this problem and they do nothing to notify its customers or fix it this could open them up to some really nasty legal problems.
Both the driver's and passenger's sun visors broke on my '07 Sonata. 20K miles. Very frustrating....

Mine just broke after slowly not being able to flip up all the way -- it dropped while I was driving -- scary! Ended up resting it on my head to hold it out of the way so I could see! Am having a challenge locating a replacement on the 'net. Will contact the dealer Monday -- seems like a safety issue. I have a 07 Sonata SE, just over a year old.

2008 sonata driver side visor broke wiling driving home from work the other day would not go up. Went to dealership and because I have 97,000 miles on the car, they told me I drive my car not like other people. All highway miles.... Told me car is out of the 60,000 mile warranty. My husband car 2008 stick sonata engine quit and that's why I was at the dealership to drop off the receipts of maintenance to them, because it was that night before we went down. Told me that it was 89.00$ asked if I should go to the junkyard he said sure. I am so tired of the games the dealer ships play on people. Now that I know there is more of you people with the same problem it helps. Thanks.

I just got done filing my complaint with the NHTSA online. Please if you have this problem then take the time to file a complaint. Until then I'm going to try to use velcro.
I have that same problem only mine fell limp around 97k so I'm definitely out of warranty. I've done the velcro and it doesn't last, unless you get extra strength it doesn't stick that well to the fabric. Now, mine falls down with force and hits the top of my head since I tend to lean forward when driving while making a turn or something. Also, it pisses me off because I'm short so my seat is pumped all the way up. With the visor always extended it blocks a lot of my vision and half of my rear view mirror. Grr.

time to replace the visor assy's. If they have been used frequently this problem is common.

If under 60,000 miles, take it to the dealer for replacement - free of charge. Both sun visors on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata did the same thing and had them both replaced, but now out of warranty and driver's side has done it again so I'll have to pay to have it fixed. Looking for a used one online now. I guess this is just a defect in that particular model.

I had the same problem with my 2007 Sonata. I took it into the dealership and they were aware of the problem and fixed it.

that is a T74 Campaign. that should be covered if your car is under warranty.

I have found a few complaints at the following gov. site.
I have tried velcro which worked for awhile but now the glue won't stick to the roof material.

I have a 2006 Sonata as well and my drivers side visor broke as well. The bar that hold the visor up cracked. Hyundai has a great extended warranty but too bad it does not apply to interior trim. I am trying to locate a used on online.
I have an '07 Sonata and the same thing happened last week. I have been driving with masking tape holding it up for now, which isnt really working. Frustrated and disappointed.
i have the same problem only i have a 2000 sonata and my car has 110,000 miles on it cost a fortune to fix i may just take it off always falls while i am driving not very safe!
2008 Sonata 13,000 miles. Sun visor will not go up and snap into place as it suppose to do in down or up position. I have not taken to dealer yet to see if covered. From comments I have read here I am worried....Would this be hard to replace if I have to do it myself?
I have two sun visors on my 2006 sonata that broke and will not stay up anymore. Rather than replacing them, I am holding them in place with elastic bands wrapped around the visor and attached to the ceiling with a paper clamp one uses on office cubicle walls.
I will go and search for used ones in the spring.

I have the same problem. My 2006 sonata drivers side visor will not stay up. It is horrible!!
Funny I thought I was the only one out here with this problem. My husband had at one point slide it down so that it was kinda off centered so that it would stay up and that only lasted for a little while. I went to flip it down one day and it cracked on me. Now we are holding it up using 2 push pins to keep it out of our view as to not have an accident. I agree maybe we should all report this to Hyundai and maybe they will do something. Our car is an 06 Sonata and not a ton of miles on it either. i don't think mileage should even weigh in on this. It simply should not be happening. i love my car though.
I have a 2007 Sonata and it happened to me yesterday and that's why I'm looking online now. I flipped the visor down because of glare, heard a crack and it sort of went slack and wouldn't hold in place. It kept falling as I was driving and I kept pushing it back up. I now have it held (somewhat) in place) with rubber bands wrapped around visor and the hand grip on above the driver side door.
2006 Sonata...holding the driver's side visor up with duck tape.
2007 sonata both visiors broken is there a recall for this?
I have the same problem with my 2006 Sonata. The passenger side visor keeps on falling down. I called the dealership in Las Vegas, and they said there is a recall on this item. You should be able to call your dealership and they said it can be replaced for free. They may have to order the right color for you.
I hope this information is helpful to you.
The driver's side visor will not stay in the 'up' position or in the fully extended position (closest to the windshield). It falls over time, ending up either poking you in the head (if it was resting against the ceiling) or hanging straight down (if it had been fully extended). This really is a safety hazard! The dealership just told me they had cancelled the recall, but if the problem occurred within the 5 year, 60000 mile mark, they'd replace it at no charge. Hope this helps.
I have replaced 5 visors now. I filed a report with the NHTSA. This is a safety issue!
Please take a few minutes to file a complaint!
I have a 2006 Sonata as well and my drivers side visor
