Replacing Instrument cluster in a 1989 cabriolet (odometer was not working) with one out of a 1990 cabriolet. 1990 instrument has wiring harness with a red, black, white/yellow striped 3-wires, my 1989 only had a two wire connection brown, white/blue striped. The 1990 had an air-bag which is I assume part, but I don't want to connect any wrong wires and cause a short. See Image The top is for the 1989, the two wire connection is different than the 1990

If the odometer on your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 is not working, there are a few things that could be causing the issue. Some possible causes include:
Fuse: Check the fuse for the odometer. If it is blown, replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage.
Instrument cluster: The problem may be with the instrument cluster itself. If this is the case, you may need to have the cluster repaired or replaced.
Speed sensor: The odometer is connected to the speed sensor, which sends a signal to the instrument cluster to indicate the vehicle's speed. If the speed sensor is not working properly, the odometer may not function correctly.
Wiring: The wiring connecting the odometer to the rest of the vehicle's electrical system may be damaged or corroded. If this is the case, the wiring will need to be repaired or replaced.
Computer: The problem could be with the vehicle's computer. If the odometer is not working, there could be a malfunction in the computer that controls the odometer.
It's important to have a professional mechanic to diagnose the issue and confirm what the problem is before trying to fix it.
If you are not comfortable with troubleshooting the issue yourself, it's best to contact a Dodge Ram mechanic or dealership for further assistance. https://amzn.to/3kfOLX4 https://amzn.to/3ZBjQ7M
This is one guy's advice: Replace the speedo head, that should take care of the problem."
This site is also interesting because the guy said
General Motors cars had instrument cluster problems from 2003 through 2006. When I researched instrument cluster problems on the Internet what I found raised concerns in me. Many of those vehicles had problems that began with the instrument cluster, but eventually led to the engine refusing to start.
(an electronic instrument cluster, digital instrument panel or digital dash for short, is a set of instrumentation, including the speedometer, that is displayed with a digital readout rather than with the traditional analog gauges. Many refer to it simply as a digital speedometer.)
I'd have to check voltage and ground for the instrument cluster. I noticed one of the fuses for your instrument cluster goes hot with the key on, same thing for ac compressor. I'd have to voltage feed to and from ignition switch for applicable fuse. Check the ignition switch wiring connector. I can't rule out ignition switch itself, at the moment.
There could be other issues?
Ignition switch faults are common on some makes and models.
Instrument cluster wiring connector problems. Sometimes if you disconnect and reconnect the instrument cluster connector, it may start working again, also, cycling the instrument cluster connector may reset, if it starts working, well, it's working for now, may quit again.
Some instrument clusters may do a self test, don't know about yours?
Press and hold odometer reset button, turn key to run position release odometer reset button, watch the odometer. Your indicator lamps may turn on and off, the gages may cycle in small increments. The cluster will exit self test on its own.
You may have to check buss circuits.
The GEM has nothing to do with it ! Odometer/Trip Odometer
The odometer and trip odometer are displayed in the integrated circuit LCD display. The instrument cluster records the total mileage of the vehicle using information received from the PCM, and electronically displays this information in the LCD. If this information is not received, the LCD displays all dashes. How did you prove that instrument cluster isn't bad ?
Did you have a factory scan tool hooked up , check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's ? View data to the instrument cluster etc...

Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop.
Either you have a broken wire some where from the speed sensor to the cluster or you have connector at fault, the one which hookup the dash cluster to the main wire bundel. Check the connector, maybe a pushed back pin !!
Remove fasteners holding steering wheel column as outlined in Section 11-04 . Gently lower steering column.
Remove fasteners holding the instrument panel finish panel (044D70) and gently pry off.
Remove four instrument cluster retaining screws. (Do not remove screws from the instrument cluster main lens (10887) and instrument cluster mask (10890) ).
Slide the instrument cluster (10849) to the right of the instrument panel opening and unhook the instrument panel harness from the back of the instrument cluster .
Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel (04320) .

Speedometer/Odometer
Federal law requires that the odometer in any replacement speedometer (17255) must register the same mileage as that registered in the removed speedometer . Since the speedometer mileage cannot be reset on this unit, affix odometer sticker to driver's door pillar and record original vehicle mileage. Removal
Disconnect battery ground cable (14301) .
Remove the instrument cluster (10849) as outlined.
Remove seven screws retaining the instrument cluster mask (10890) and instrument cluster main lens (10887) .
Remove speedometer assembly.
Installation
Position the speedometer assembly to the instrument cluster back plate (10848) and install.
Position the instrument cluster mask and instrument cluster main lens to the instrument cluster back plate and install the seven retaining screws.
Install the instrument cluster as outlined.
Connect battery ground cable and check the operation of the speedometer .
after a light accident the odometer mileage went down to 0 zero , it is working, but i need to bring back to correct mileage of 50.000 plus
