The sunroof on my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd will not open using the toggle switch. When the button is pressed the roof begins to open and I can hear what sounds like the mechanism slapping around inside the rear of the roof. It only opens about an inch. How do I go about repairing it?

It is the relay switch but there's a workaround and you don't have to spend 800 bucks plus. You can take down part of the headliner and replace the relay switch or, if you want to avoid spending the money, you can simply disable the sunroof - after all - who uses it? You can a.) pull the headliner driver side to get to the rear relay/motor and reverse polarity (the connector) as long as you have the front top console plug jumpered to open/close the sunroof or b.) get to the rear relay without totally dissaembling your car and replace the relay in about 2 hours and after spending about $180 for the part.

SOURCE: My sunroof is stuck open on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo? Would it be a fuse? If so, how do you change it?

Definitely, you'll have to take a look to see if any obstruction is visible. To check the fuses first you'll need to find them. The fuse block cover should illustrate what each fuse is for. You can visibly check the fuses, with a flashlight. Just take a look at the sunroof fuse and check that its not burned. That the metal inside goes from one side to the other and its not burned or broken. You can use a test light or a multimeter, a test-light will do. I usually check them visibly, its obvious when you have a blown fuse just by looking at it. Its better just to pull out the suspected fuse to check it.

I have a `99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a sunroof that won't close. It will open, but only close a few inches. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

Hi, as a general point on sunroofs I have known the white grease used on them to go hard after time and cause them to go tight. Flushing the Runners with a good penetrating oil whilst working the sunroof back and forward can help to free them off, sometimes giving the roof a hand will help to get them moving. jon

1999 Grand Cherokee roof is leaking. How/where do i find the hoses for drainage?

If you have a sunroof, they run from the sunroof to the front pillars, on the sides of the windshield. the plastic cover should just pull off. If no sunroof, no drain tubes. Look at the roof rack attachment locations and squirt them with some 100% silicone caulk. The same stuff you would use around your bathtub.

My sunroof will only tilt up if I push on it while pushing switch. It will not slide to the open position at all. How can I repair this?

Remove the sunroof complete, clean all items of this system, incl. the sliders in your Jeeps roof. You need to remove the roof trim at first. Then you can remove the sunroof. Check all items if rusted or cracked, if so replace them. That's the only way to go.

Sun roof

This is a common issue, it is caused by a relay block that is mounted close to the sunroof motor, after time the main 2 relays on the block come loose and can be fixed by taking out and re-soldering them, i fixed mine and two other friends jeep sunroofs this way, works like a charm
