2006 dodge ram 1500 condenser fan not working. Where is the A C Condenser Fan fuse located?

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2011

I wiggled the wire connections with no help. I decided to tap on the housing and the fan started turning slowly. A few more aggressive taps and the fan is working at full speed... Guess it is not the fuse, but a loose connection instead....

No one here seems to have answering the initial question, "Where is the fuse/relay for the condenser fan on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?"
In this year make/model, there are no "big" fuses or relays. It's all solid state and run from the (brain) main computer of the truck.
SO....if the condenser fan is not running (and the truck and AC unit are), the problem is with the fan. Turn the truck off, unplug the fan motor, and get to work on that replacement. Your safety and your truck's safety is up to you. I'm not going to go into all that CYA to keep you or me from being sued. I hope this has answered your question.
By the way, I'm having the same problem. It is (in fact) the fan. And, I'm going to replace it without disconnecting the AC lines by altering the fan shroud with my Dremel tool. What a cheap shot designing it that way...
Rock on, my fellow Dodge Ram 1500 owner!

From a TSB, wonder if your dash is cracked too?
Symptom/Condition:
The condenser fan fuse (#39) in the power distribution center may open leaving the condenser fan inoperative. This may be caused by a condenser fan with excessive current draw or by water collecting in a trough in the fan shroud and freezing in cold weather, which can prevent the fan from turning. This may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).

http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2002/08-015-02.htm

ps: the water collecting is because there is no protection in the underneath of stuff in these vehicles....many many documented problems, could be they originate from the cracked dash falling inside or pulling apart and damaging electronics too...

SOURCE: ac does not blow cold at idle... ac condenser fan

that seems to be the problem. If the fan does not turn on when the a/c is turned on it could be a fuse, relay, control box, or just a bad fan. Try connecting the fan directly to see if it works. Does this car have 2 fans? normally all the small cars have 2 fans one for the engine cooling and one to assist the first when the a/c is turned on. Without the fan pulling air through the a/c condensor the had pressure goes up high enough to shut off the a/c compressor. It also causes some cars to run warmer than usual when stopped. Check the a/c condensor for blockage also which doesn't have anything to do with your fan not working.

never put freon into a car with out gauges and knowing what you are doing!! You can overfill and ruin the compressor and a/c lines overfilling anything the fluid has to go somewhere usually out the seals. Then its big money!!!

SOURCE: blower fan will not come on dodge ram 1500

This could be a few things. First check to make sure that your fan relay is still good. (This will be in your control panel under your hood) Otherwise, your fan switch could be out. Try removing the control panel and the switch that attaches to behind the fan control knob and replace with a new one. Lastly, if your fan works on "high" but not for "low" or "medium" then it is most likely your blower resistor module. If I remember correctly the resistor is located behind the glove compartment. Let me know how it goes and if you need some more help. Good luck!

SOURCE: Check Engine LIght Problem code P1491

Don't rush to replace the fan itself until you have tested it. Check the fan relay and relay fuse inside the vehicle. Hopefully it will be just a failed relay and replacement ($12 at dealer) or/and an inexpensive 10amp or 30amp fuse. There can be multiple issues causing this code.

In my case, the fan relay failed (burnt). 2000 Dodge Durango. The PCM was also damaged and requires replacement, awaiting delivery. A remanufactured PCM can be purchased online for substantial less than at the dealer. We tested the fan by supplying power directly to the fan and it runs fine. We had to remove a cover (easy to remove) under the vehicle near the fan to gain access to the connector Use a fused link for testitng to prevent damage during the test. Using a multimeter, I found power 12.5volts from the 30amp fuse circuit which supplies the power for the fan, 12.5 volts from the PCM circuit with the key on, but only 5.16volts from the 10amp fuse circuit with the key on. A continuity test showed the 10amp fuse inside the fuse box inside the vehicle was good. The 30amp fuse in the power distribution box was good when tested for continuity. Checked resistance on all curcuits and they were well within limits. I also checked the wiring to the fan for continuity and resistance. After my tests were completed, a Dodge technican concluded the PCM is bad and is not grounding the circuit as it should. If you want to troubleshoot this yourself, see if your local library has access to ALLDATA which will have diagnostic information and the diagrams of the circuit involved. A Haynes manual for the vehicle, I purchased one at Autozone, can be helpful also.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 4x4. What fuse runs the 4x4 please?

It isn't specified. There is more than one fuse that covers transmission. You would need an auto electrician or a transmission expert to connect a pro grade scan tool computer and diagnose if the switch or solenoid is faulty. A scan tool at this level is bi-directional and can command solenoids to operate and confirm that they do.

Why my A/C condenser fan won t stop running, dodge ram 2008

To clarify, the compressor and fan will run in defrost mode. The compressor and fan runs to dry out the air blowing onto the windshield.
Now if the condenser fan runs in "heat" you may have a problem with the fan relay or the main controller.

My ac in my dodge truck only works when I am driving, but when I come to a stop it will stop blowing?

Stop blowing cool or stop blowing anr air through the vents??? If it stops blowing cool air, check if the condenser fan is running (it should be)( on drivers side under hood, looks like a small radiator) if not take a water hose and deluge the condenser with water, if it then cools, you will need a new condenser fan assembly.

While running the air conditioning, the air cools and then warms and eventually cools for a little bit again. I think the water pump is what's needed here? what is the big bolt behind the fan?

It is unlikely that the water pump is causing the trouble you describe. The large hex behind the fan is what you would turn to remove the fan clutch from the water pump shaft. This fan clutch is supposed to detect heated air coming through the AC condenser and radiator and engage the fan more positively with the water pump shaft when more air needs to me moved to cool the radiator and AC condenser. The fan clutch could be bad or the AC system may not be properly charged--either of these conditions could cause the problem you describe.

2003 dodge ram 1500 w/ 5.7L hemi

you may want to check the fan for the AC condenser under the hood of the car. Your AC condenser should have a separate fan similar to that of the radiator. See if it turns on while the AC is on. If it does not, you may want to swap the relay of the two fans. If swapping the fan relay would start the AC fan then have the relay replaced. If it does not turn on then have the fan tested. Check the wires. If the fan is Ok you may have to check out the condenser if it needs cleaning.
