That terminal is up front because the battery is in the trunk and less accessible. You can hook the charger up positive to the underhood post you mentioned. If there is no negative post shown in the manual, keep in mind that the whole chassis and engine is grounded. Any exposed metal parts should work - a shock tower bolt for example.
You can hook the charger directly to the battery in the trunk too, but the above should work just fine.
On the newer model cars they have started putting the battery under a myriad of plastic covers to make the engine compartment look cleaner. The "+" post that you have found is directly connect to the positive terminal on the battery. Put the positive cable on that post and then the negative on a bare bolt that is connected to the frame of the car, I would use the one on the sway bar if possible.
There are no jump points under the hood for this car. You will need to access the battery, which is in the trunk, under the carpet right next to the spare tire
