Hello, I hope you can help me, I have a 55 plate s type jag that now seems to be stuck in reverse, when i put the key in the ignition and turn it there is nothing, the light all come on the dash but the automatic gear controller is stuck in park and the reverse gear light is on? hope you can help
incredibly on July 31st, the exact same thing happened to my 2003 Jaguar S-type (41K miles). No prior problems, no warning, nothing. It's stuck in park but the gearbox shows that it's in reverse. Because the car thinks its in reverse I can't get it started. I was going to take apart the center console this evening to see if I could identify the problem.
Have you had any luck?

Have you been able to drag it to someplace with a computer diagnostic. That would probebly be a really good start before you start digging into your spendy vechile.
I look forward to your post

i think you can but you should check with your jag dealer to be sure, it will also need programming to the car using jag diagnostic equipment, because it is a module on the can network and the pats security system will not recognise it as belonging to the car and wont allow you to start the engine. hope this answers your question. cheers.
the instument pack is part of the pats. security system i guess the pack is saying pecus error, it needs to be programmed to the car so the other modules on the system recognise it, you need find someone with jaguar ids or compatiable diagnostic equipment to carry out this task.hope this helps.
I am not sure about thsi but some Jags had the immobilizer system connected with the original radio as there was also a code sequence to put in, does the car start if the fuse is back?
Try lock/unlock cycle with new key + fob. Your key may be corrupted.
Try also just unlocking the car with the key (not the fob) as soon as you unlock the door put the key in the ignition immediately and see if the car starts.
If you have your radio code it may be worth trying a total reset (leave the car unlocked) disconnect the battery and leave for 20 mins. then reconnect, most systems will then reboot and this MAY help?
Failing all the above it looks like dealer time - more ££ss
Is the car alarming when opened on the fob? If so you have a control module fault. Try opening the car with the key. as soon as you unlock the door, open it and insert the key in the ignition - this should bypass the remote control. If you still have problems with this method - you will have to take it for repair/replace.
I have a 55 plate 2.5 S Type. I bought it from a local Jag dealer, i had a few small problems but they sorted them out straight away. As they are not selling cars you will be able to get a good deal i would only use a Jag dealer ask for 1 or 2 years free servicing i got it. Dont buy a high milage vehicle it will cost you more in the long run. I love my car PS Get the highest spec you can ie SE plus.Hoped this helped.
It's happened to my Jag S type V8 (2000) twice- resulting in the car being towed to my mechanic.
It's the J-gate shifter-- it's plastic piece that fails when stuck in park (it's not your transmission going out, but that will happen by 60K miles).
Way to avoid getting stuck is to first pull the parking brake before shift from drive into park. And keep the parking brake engaged when you shift from park into drive or reverse (after you have shifted, then release the parking brake). I know it's crazy, but it works! Jag even addresses this in the Owner's Manual.
Beware: the car is a piece of junk- I can't wait to get rid of mine- going on 4 years and nothing but problems, spent over $10K on repairs....
its the clutch, clutch plate worn and pressure plate spring a bit weak on one side and dragging.when engaging first engage second first then push up into first.or turn off engine ,engage first then start engine in gear. When changing clutch fit only a valeo, borg and beck.any branded make but not a reconditioned unit. This is a JAG remember,so no smoking in car, polish every sunday and cream the leather every second week .
