1992 Toyota Privia won't start. Intermittent problem of starting, dying while iddeling. Missing while driving, but not dying. And not starting at all. Replaced the coil. No success. All this happened after the van innitially and all of a sudden started running badly with low compression going uphill. Replaced the spark plugs, distributor with rotor and wires and the van ran smooth for 2wks then the starting and itermittent problem.

The gasket between the engine block and top is blown. Its probably cheaper to buy a new car than fixing this. Just

check the fuel pump to see if it is coming on or it could be a crank sensor

try starting the car and while running disconnect the negative battery cable,if the car still runs turn on the head lights,if the car dies the alternator is weak. I think its weak and can charge the battery as long as the lights are off,but cant keep up when theyare on. so if drive most of the time in the day time you are ok as long as you dont have to start the car too many times. when you drive with the lights on and the engine slows to an idle like when you park the car dies. make sense?

common problem with these engines are the ingnition modual located under the coil packs!

I once had a problem like this one, the car started but when i put in on drive the engine died.
This was because the engine moved when put in drive, and a ground to the injectors was lose, so just got it tight and problem fixed.

Start your engine and move the harness a bit if it dies there's a lose wire.

START WITH CHANGING FUEL FILTER FIRST , NEXT THE FUEL PUMP IS POSSIBLE TOO.
