Under the steering column there is a small plastic piece that can be removed from the lower cover. Remove that piece. the hole will be big enough to put your finger in. If you look you will see the park lock cable where it attaches to the ignition lock cylinder housing. Push/pull lightly on that. It will move in one direction. As soon as you feel it move turn the key to the off position.

If that works than there is a switch in the shifter lever that has gone bad or the shifter lever itself is worn out. Either way the entire shifter assembly will need to be replaced as GM does not sell the individual components.
This is a very common problem with these cars.
I'll see if I can find some photos to help you out further.
This gentleman did a really nice job explaining what happened. You can see where he pushes on the underside of the column in the first couple of seconds.
