2008 vera cruz. AM reception is poor. It is better when engine is off but is still poor. FM and XM are good reception. Radio is integral with the GPS system. Hyundai has given up on fixing the problem. When I screw in an old fashioned fender antenna from my truck the reception is perfect but I cant use it because it sticks up too high since the mount is on the roof.

If you can get access to under the antenna check that the wiring plug is fully inserted.

Sounds like an antenna issue, any radio installation shop should be able to check that for you.

There is no Am anymore only FM, you may pick up bit but nothing good!!

If it is a built in system, which is sounds like it is. Your XM receiver is not functioning correctly. I believe a replacement XM receiver is covered under your warranty if you have one with your Honda dealership.

I had the same exact problem. Toyota changed the Amolifier that improved sound quality but not the FM Reception.

THE HARNESSES CONNECTING ANTENNA TO RECEIVER (TWO OF THEM) HAD IAASUES. REPACING THEM FIXD THE ISSUE. FM RECEPTION EXCELLENT NOW !!!!!!!

Same problem here. I repeatedly complained to XM but got no reply. I listen to XM in 2009 Sonata and it was just as bad.

XM is better than AM. Much worse than FM.

Check antenna connections at radio and antenna assy.. Poor connections will only receive AM and hardly any FM

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps
