A recommended replacement interval for serpentine belts would be every four or five years, or 50,000 miles. I usually just check for Cracks in the Ribs of the belt. If I see cracks, I replace the belt. If you do this job yourself, the belt shouldn't cost much more than $20.00. I am not sure how much the person you get to change the belt is going to charge you, but I personally charge $75.00/hour for services. It would usually take me less than an hour to change a serpentine belt or belts.

The factory said it should be changed every 90,000 - 100,000 miles. Cost for the belt is about $40.

On a Mazda protege 5 do I have to change the timing belt to change a bad water pump

Usually it is a good idea to replace any of the belts if you have to take them off to do repairs. Belts aren't usually expensive to buy. A timing belt is a major service item on higher mileage engines, (60,000 to 100,000 miles), so replacing it is always worth doing.

When should a timing belt be change on a mazda cx

Contact your local Mazda dealer and ask them. Manufacturers all have different intervals for specific type of services and maintenance.

Some vehicles have a belt and others have a chain. In belts, most commonly are changed within 80,000 to 100,000 miles. With chains, as long as you maintain your oil changes up to date, no need to replace. But consider that hard driving affects the overall performance of this component.

Timing Belt replacement- two recomendations by mazda manual

they are good for well over 100k. If your engine is freewheeling (that is - if belt does break, no valve will hit the psiton), I would just keep driving it until it breaks or never does.
I am driving my 93 Villager until it breaks. over 150k right now, freewheeling engine.

As for cost, about $400 is my guess.

Ask your dealer service dept if it's freewheeling. check your owner manual too.

Replacing 2 belts on a 2000 Mazda Protege

I recommend that you go to any Auto Parts store and by a repair user manual for your 2000 Mazda Protege.  They have pictures and arrows and stuff that you will need to do the whole job.  The non-Mazda version will cost approximately $15.00.
Because of the tensioner that may come off when while you are doing these belt changes, it is too complicated to talk you through this.
But with the manual, I am confident you can change them.

Timing belt

usually around 100,000 miles depending on how the car has been driven. Or just wait till it breaks. I've seen over 200,000 miles on the original belt. If it were mine, I'd do it every 75,000 to 125,000 miles. I don't like being stuck in the middle of nowhere :)
