I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 149k miles. When I get close to hitting 150,000 mile, the mileage meter starts going backwards until it hits approx. 148,000 miles, and then goes forward again to repeat the cycle. Why does it do this? When I go for inspections the mechanics think that I am turning back my mileage meter.

That's funny -- sorry.. seriously though, there is a sensor which is electronically powered to read your speed. You can find the details in a haynes or chiltons repair manual - try your local library to see if you can check one out...

Thanks. The speedometer works fine measuring my speed...it is the mileage meter that is going haywire.

the sensor within the transmission I made mention of should also have the control to the odometer as well..

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. There is a "violent" vibration that occurs only when you are going 40-60 MPH and you hit a bump or pot hole on the highway. The front end begins to...

Vibration from about 40-60 mph is usually attributed to wheel balancing, but the onset when you hit a bump seems to indicate play in the steering linkages (tie rods etc) or suspension members and stabiliser bar rubbers but you had that all checked out, that brings us back to the wheel balancing.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN YOUR PERFORM SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON? I JUST BOUGHT MY JEEP USED AND DID NOT GET A BOOK WITH IT,

this is a service reminder and can be reset by you, it refers to regular maintenance intervals the are recommended by the manufacturer that can be found in the owner's manual such as oil changes, air filter replacement, tune-ups etc., depending on the mileage of the vehicle. to reset, try this procedure. hit step button until console reads 0 miles to service. than hold down the reset button until display resets miles.

94 Jeep Grand Cherokee diagram panel flashes on the "miles to service" message, clock won't stay set. I suspect that at some point my husband disconnected the battery, and the system needs to be reset -...

there are two buttons on the diagram panel screen, push and hold top button and a one of the entries will start to blink, then you use the bottom button to change the entry, when you are ready to move to the next entry push the top button again.

Vehicle hakes when driving 45 to 50 miles per hour

Check wheel balance,
check steering linkages for loosness - such as tie rod ends, steering rack linkages etc,
check driveline for worn/loose joints and bearings.

It saids ''service performace'' on the over head viewer. what does this mean?

It means the mileage has elapsed for service time. It may be set to 5000 mi or other lower settings. Using the <step> button, step thru the items until it says service and the miles between services will display. You can hit <reset> at this time to reset the miles but I don't recommend this until you have performed the required service determined by the total mileage of your jeep. The user manual has a chart for this. It you reset it now, the bonging will stop and you may forget to do the service your jeep is crying out for.
