The brake light on my 2005 SC430 just went out. To replace the bulb, open the trunk and locate a nickel sized removable plastic plug on the black moulding surrounding the light. Pop out the plug with a regular screwdriver. Unscrew the single screw under the plug. This is the only thing holding the light covering to the vehicle. Now, standing in directly behind the light molding, pull toward you and down and the entire light moulding will slide out of the frame. It may take a little presure but it will slide out. If you have a rubber mallet you might use this to tap on the top part of the light moulding to assit you in sliding it out of the frame. When removed, the light is easily accessable for replacement. When light is replaced simply slide the light moulding back into the vehicle frame. Replace the screw and plug and your set. It took about 10 minutes for me. Happy Braking!

I couldn't figure out how to do it so I took it to the shop. They were going to charge me 2 hours of labor just for this fix! Over $100! Your tip saved me! Thank you so much!

No need to remove anything except one bolt, 10 mm size. Clip on the top, gently Pull down and toward you, do not force it. It is simple, but do not rush it. Be careful, the bolt is well hidden under the black cap. It is not the bolt inside the trunk, That bolt holds the retractable open...not the tail light assembly. Thanks to all the previous posted info.

SOURCE: tail light assembly

If you look inside the trunk, you will need to undo the panel inside trunk to gain access to the bolts that mount the tail light assy's.

Tail lights dont turn on

1. Replace your car tail light. You will need working gloves to protect your hand during the process. Of course you will also need a screwdriver, cleaning cloth, wire brush, and a good set of tail light bulbs.

2.Understand that different models of car have different set of tail light covers. Naturally, these covers will require different un-installation procedures. So, determine if you can dismount the cover from the outside or you will have to dismount it from the trunk of the car.

3.Determine how to dismount the tail light cover, carefully detach it from the car. You can use different sets of screwdrivers for this. Be careful not to break the tail lights cover. The important thing is you must be able to expose the bulb in order to extract it.

4.Remove the tail lights cover, unscrew the bulb from its socket. Sometimes you will have to press a little and twist the bulb in order to extract it from the socket.

5.Extract the bulb, bring it to your favorite auto parts and accessories store and find the exact match of your tail light bulb. Be sure to get the correct match because if you use other types of bulb, your tail lights may not work properly.

6.Reinstall the tail light bulb, clean the aluminum casing of the tail light. Wipe the socket and wiring with a dry cloth. You can use wire brush if there are corrosion around the tail light casing.

7.Put the good bulb on the socket. You might still need to apply a little pressure on the socket before you can install it fully.

8.Reinstall the tail light bulb, replace the cover of the tail lights and secure it tightly.

9.Test to make sure your new tail lights are working. Start the engine and apply the brakes. You can ask someone to see if the tail lights are really working.

How do you remove the tail light lens cover for a 1987 Nissan Pickup truck

You can't remove the lens cover. The tail lights are molded as one piece. If you want to change the bulbs, there should be an access panel inside the truck box right behind the tail lights that gives you access to the bulbs. There are also screws to remove the entire tail light assembly if it needs replacing.

Tail lights do not work on a 2000 lexus rx 300 bulbs are fine, all other lights work fine

You may have a fried fuse. Look in your owners manual to find out which fuse it is in the fuse box diagram. If that is the problem make sure to use the same amperage fuse to replace the burned one with. I fried fuse is usually a sign that you have a short somewhere. But they can also fry for other reasons such as excess moisture somewhere. Sometimes they just burn from age and fatigue. It may solve it to just replace the fuse, but if there really is a short, the new fuse will fry too.

How to change a tail light

1. Remove the two screws at the outside back of the tail light cover
2. loosen the tail light cover from the two clips at the front of the cover by gently prying it toward the rear. Fingernails worked for me. The bottom clip seemed easier. If it is too tight, try a screwdriver near the bottom, then near the top prying toward the rear of the car.
3. the top light is the backup lamp (white), and the bottom light is the brake/turn/rear light (red).
4. rotate the lamp 1/3 turn to remove and replace.
5. test.
6. replace the cover by aligning the screw holes then pushing the cover into the clips and replacing the screws.
