96 gmc sierra 2500 5.7 litre has a miss. spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, plug wires just changed. #1 plug was fouled bad when changed but miss is still there. when purchased distributor was loose and shop scanner would not communicate with computer so distributor position was guessed at and should be pretty close.

SOURCE: replacing front rotor

after removing the wheel &caliper depending on rust build up you may need to hit the rotor between the wheel studs this may take some time after removal check for rust build up on hub remove rust with hammer, sanding&scraping put some anti seize lube around hub making sure no rust is caught in between depending if you are replacing the pads you have to push the caliper piston back with a large pair of chanel lock pliers or suitable tool, then you can reassemble.thanx from schleck

SOURCE: 1991 chevy 4x4 2500, we changed the distributor,

Timing chain and gears may need replacing. Is the timing correct? Like number 1 at top of compression stroke and the dist. is on 1. How about a new coil too. Try a coil first. They go bad on these a lot.

SOURCE: cyl#3&5 foul plugs 97 suburban

Fouling occurs when the spark plugs' firing tip becomes coated with excessive fuel, oil, or combustion deposits so that it is unable to produce a spark. A plug can become fouled from continuous low speed driving, improper spark plug heat range (too cold), improper timing (over-retarded), too rich an air/fuel ratio or an oil leak into the combustion chamber. A variety of self-cleaning features are designed into most plugs to reduce fouling.

I just put a motor in my 96 GMC Sierra and it's missing on 1 3 5 and 7 And try on 2 4 6 and 8 Who replaced Everything having to do with ignition including distributor cap rotor and wires

Your best option is to start from the beginning as this sounds like it might be a firing order problem.
Assuming yours is a petrol, not a diesel, you'll need to check the correct firing sequence on the engine. Make sure the spark plug leads are in good condition and connected in the correct order AT BOTH ENDS! Next fit new spark plugs as they may be old or faulty. It's also worth checking the silly obvious stuff too like is the battery fully charged and there is fuel in the tank.

Every time it starts raining truck starts missing and cutting out it's a 97 f 150 ford 4.6 motor.

Possibly a plug wire or cracked distributor cap. I'd take a spray bottle and while it's running (be careful not to get your body parts in danger of the fan) spray some water on the cap area. If everything seems fine, you could spray down each plug wire at a time. See if you find the culprit that way. For a vehicle so old, if you haven't done a tune up lately. It's probably a good time. Replace the distributor cap and rotor. Plugs and wires.

Ignition mystery! 1994 GMC Suburban 2500 5.7 mtr. No spark to spark plugs. Have spark from coil to distributor. Have changed coil wire, cap, rotor, ignition module, and coil. have 12.5 volts going to...

I guess you could have the ignition analyzed on an oscilloscope. Maybe a tech could see something then.
I always heard the only gap was the spark plug gap-the rotor has no gap-are you sure you got the correct rotor? And does it touch the top distributor cap coil wire tower?

Let us know. It is a mystery worthy of a solution.

Check the compression on each cylinder. Also check for proper valve operation. You may have a flat cam lobe or bad rocker arm on either the intake or exhaust side which will give the rough idle you are experiencing.

97 gmc 2500 5.7l vortec, won't start, fuel pump works, tried using starting aid and nothing, hooked up a scan tool, and no errors came up, could it be the crank position sensor? or the distribution centre...

See if you have spark on at least two plug wires. If you do, but it is weak, you may just need a good tune up (plugs, wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor). If you don't have spark or it is only on one wire, take the distributor cap off and see if the distributor is turning while someone turns the key. If it doesn't spin, you need a distributor because the bottom gear is broken or stripped. If it does spin, then it could be the coil, ignition module, crank sensor, fuse or wiring to any of these parts. It will take a lot of wire testing and diagnostics to figure out which part it is if it isn't just a simple tune up or distributor.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
