IT IS NOT GOING INTO NEUTRAL. IT HAS LOST THE DIRECT DRIVE CLUTCH PACK INTERNALLY. SOUNDS LIKE IT IS HIGH MILEAGE. IF SO AND YOU CHANGE THE FLUID IT CLEANS UP ALL THE VARNISH IN THE TRANNY AND THE END RESULT IS TRANNY MALFUNCTIONS DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF CARE IT HAS HAD IN THE PAST.

SOURCE: Transmission won't shift!

Does it just not shift up to 3rd or when it shifts to 3rd it is just like neutral?

SOURCE: My 93 suburban will not shift out of 1st

Take it out for a drive on a country road and floor it...it may be the transmission or solenoid valves are stuck this should unfreeze them also check for corrosion in the electrical plugs to transmission clean them with vinegar and apply electrical contact grease and reconnect them

SOURCE: 98 5.7 4x4 trans shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and

This is most likely the first signs of transmission failure. There's not much you can do aside from getting it rebuilt. This should be a 700 R4 they're a pretty easy transmission to rebuild, however you want to do it sooner than later. Many of the parts can be re-used IF you don't let it go too long. I've rebuilt hundreds of these and I'm here to tell you that I'd rather not destroy 500-600 dollars worth of hard parts if I don't have to.

1993 Chevy Suburban....tranny runs and shifts great in drive....sometimes no reverse at all or it "stutters" as you back up....we replaced filter and tranny fluid, added trans x to help and it ran great...

Sounds like going to need new transmission. When you serviced it the oil would of been new and thicker as it mixes with what was in there it gets thinner and reverse is normally the first to go.

Instant NO REVERSE, Chev 700R4 tranny.

You blow out the planatarys in Reverse, having fun. Now you can pull the unit and rebuild it. You should have to do it yourself,to learn what damage you did. I mean rebuild it yourself.

Just bought 95 chevy pu 5 speed manual looks like

Please ensure that this has gear oil because some of these actually ran regular dexron tranny fluid. If it is gear oil a standard 80w-90 is a good all grade gear oil to run in it.

Transmisson on my jeep knocks

Sounds like you may have a bad cluster gear in the tranny. You can get a brand new tranny for a decent price through Quadratech. Be wary of the rebuilt tranny. If not done correctly you will have more problems again.

Surburban has gone into four wheel drive and will not come out

you might want to check the gear selector switch that is located on the driver side of the tranny, if the 4x4 is electric and not manual for engagement, selector must read neutral to disengage 4 wheel drive. by experience if you drove it through deep water gear selector switch can get damaged.

1995 Chevy Won't go into gear

I ran into this problem with my 95GMC about two months ago. It was intermitten and then hard failed. I changed out the switch that is operated by the brake pedal with operates your brake lights and allows you to shift into gear. $9 later the problem was solved

TRANSMISSION NOISE

I bought a 05 Murano SL and two months later I heard a very slight clicking noise upon acceleration. I took it in to Nissa twice, they couldn't hear it. Well another two months later the transmission started making a loud clicking noise and turns out they had to replace the entire transmission (under manufactures warranty) - that tranny was on backorder so I drove a rental for 3 weeks til they got it in and replaced it. So since they were on backorder, i'm assuming there were many of these with tranny problems.
