Steering wheel wont go up or down or in and out

  • florian7 Oct 09, 2008

When I shut the key off the steering wheel goes in, but not up and away. The manual control button only offers limited travel for the steering wheel. I am taking it to the dealer next to fix, and I expect to pay through the nose for the cure.

Well this isn’t a good solution to the problem but I had the same thing and I just unplugged the sensor so I would be able to used the tilt feature without problem I imagine if I get a new sensor the problem will be fixed. When its plugged in it won’t let you move the wheel up and down with out issues if at all but if you take off the cover and unplug the sensor on the right side it will let you tilt the wheel. Also I saw a TSB saying the wires were to tight and this is what the problem was I loosened them up but I am pretty certain it is my sensor. Hope this helps.

Cause!
One of the most common reasons why a steering wheel won't lock right is that the detent is broken or worn down. If you don't know what the word detent means, then don't worry. The detent is basically "the catch" part that makes sure that your steering wheel locks into place.

Steering wheel wont move on a porsche boxter 1999

It should move in and out (it pulls out and pushes in) It doesn't move up and down. Reply back if it won't do either.

The steering wheel is locked and wont move and the ingntion wont turn

This is usually because of serious proload. Happens easily, with power assist....you shut down, now too hard to release.

So, you get the key ready and apply normal pressure to turn key.... then ARM STRONG the steering wheel, one way and the other. Somewhere in there, the key system should release.
