It's that infamous "chip" in the key that becomes a nightmare to many. The security light may or may not start flashing. Sometimes it stays on steady. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it will start and die in a second. They have been known to shut down cars while driving and create dangerous situations. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car

QUICK FIX TRICKS
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down with use and so do the keys causing the security to fail.

2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, I'm sorry I have no quick fix...

There are 3 parts in this system.
1.The chipkey (Black resister chip in key)
2.The lock cylinder (Pins that read the chip in the key)
3.The TDM (Theft Deterrant Module-Sometimes called the "computer" or "brain") This allows your car to start or continue running depending on your type of system.
If any of these parts fail or are not quite funtioning properly in the slightest way, your car will not start, start for a few seconds, or die while driving. There are partial "fixes" out there, you can bypass the key and the lock cylinder in the stearing column which means ripping apart your car for a temporary fix. If you are going to do the work yourself, i suggest pulling the whole "computer" (TDM) out completely.
NEVER WORRY AGAIN FIX: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. It took longer to find the "theft deterrant module" so i could remove it, than it did to actually wire in the "Bypass module" from Newrockies. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. Life time money back guarantee. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced at a dealer. It can cost anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. And beleive me they will sell you all 3 parts before they "FIX" your problem. Dont go to a dealer, do it yourself. You can study up and purchase it thru this link.
-----> http://newrockies.ca?ap_id=judd0081 ----- With this fix, you can take that whole Vats, passlock, passkey system out of your car all together. If you want more info on how this system works, click on that Newrockies link and scroll down to the last link on the bottom of the home page. "The VATS/PassKEY/Passlock Bypass Tutorial" This link explains exactly what is happening and why. Once you understand how this works, you're going to be pissed at GM but happy you found Newrockies.
It works for:
Any GM, Saturn, or Isuzu Vehicle with VATS or PASSKey or PASSLock security systems.
If your car has the chip in the key or in the lock cylinder, then you can save it with this Full Bypass.

It works for, but is not limited to these vehicles. These are just what are KNOWN to me at the moment. More vehicles will definitely end up being on this list:

How to install electric fuel pump on Hino 700 dump truck?

Installing an electric fuel pump on a Hino 700 dump truck requires some mechanical knowledge and skill. Here is a general guide on how to install an electric fuel pump:
  1. Gather the necessary tools and equipment: You will need a socket set, screwdrivers, hose clamps, fuel line, electrical connectors, and electrical tape.
  2. Locate the existing fuel pump: The stock fuel pump may be mechanical or electric, depending on the truck's model. Locate the fuel pump and ensure that it is easily accessible.
  3. Disconnect the battery: Before starting any work, disconnect the truck's battery to prevent electrical shock or short-circuiting.
  4. Remove the stock fuel pump: If the truck has a mechanical fuel pump, it needs to be removed. To remove it, disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections, and unbolt the fuel pump from the engine.
  5. Install the electric fuel pump: Find a suitable location for the electric fuel pump that is close to the fuel tank and away from excessive heat. Mount the pump securely using the supplied mounting brackets.
  6. Connect the fuel lines: Use the appropriate-sized hose clamps to connect the fuel lines to the electric fuel pump. Ensure that the connections are tight and secure to prevent leaks.
  7. Connect the electrical connections: Install the necessary electrical connectors to connect the fuel pump to the truck's electrical system. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use electrical tape to secure the connections.
  8. Double-check everything: Before starting the truck, double-check all connections, fuel lines, and electrical connections. Ensure that there are no loose or leaking parts.
  9. Reconnect the battery: Once everything has been securely installed and checked, reconnect the truck's battery.
  10. Test the fuel pump: Turn the truck's ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Listen for the electric fuel pump to prime and pressurize the fuel lines. If everything sounds normal, start the truck and check for any leaks.

What relay is to the fuel pump

The fuel pump relay is a small unit covered in a plastic case, which has several sprockets on one side that are clipped onto the ignition system. The fuel pump relay is what turns on the fuel pump when you start your car and powers it down when you shut off the ignition.

The engine control module (ECM) uses the fuel pump relay to control when the fuel pump is on. The fuel pump relay supplies electricity to power up and power down the fuel pump.

It's located in different places on different cars. It could be under the hood, on the firewall, on one of the fender covers or near the steering column, to name a few locations. As for a Nissan Terra (Nissan Terra ?????), it is often found in the fuse box located in the engine bay.

When you turn the key in the ignition forward to crank the car, the "start cycle" begins and fuel pump relay is engaged long enough to turn on the fuel pump. It shuts off again when the engine is running. Once the engine is running, the fuel pump relay shuts off, and the current for the fuel pump is supplied by the oil pressure sending unit. The other time the fuel pump relay is engaged is when you shut off the ignition. It engages long enough to shut off your fuel pump.

97 f350 5.8 disconnected fuel line from tanks to inline filter turn on key pump runs momentarily then shuts off only supplying small amount of fuel from either tanks

Generally speaking, its supposed to do that.
The fuel pump(s) is powered by a relay that turns on for 3 seconds when you turn the key on. If the engine does not start and produce oil pressure, thats all the power the pump gets. If you were in a wreck the pump would shut off when the engine dies even with the key on to prevent a fire.
You would need to jumper the relay to make the pump run beyond the 3 second time.

Car will turn over but won't start. Through the

No noise from fuel pump when you turn over the car .First thing get voltage at fuel pump relay checked, is there 12 volt to the relay. If no, then problem is again the relay.--------- To reconfirm the problem, try other test, that is remove the relay and by pass the relay terminals with a jumper wire .Then with 12 volt external battery give power to fuel pump connector and see, if the fuel pump starts, then its clear that fuel pump relay is faulty.----------- Also other problem can be fuel pump inertia switch. If the inertia switch is faulty then also fuel pump will not start.-------- The fuel pump relay on a 1995 Ford Explorer is in the power distribution
box, in the engine compartment, driver's side near the firewall.----------
The fuel pump inertia switch is in the right front passenger area
it is below the dash but above the carpet in the right hand corner.--------
Its a push button type inertia switch.
--------
Fuel Pump Activation
When ignition switch is turned to START position, PCM operates fuel pump relay to provide fuel for starting engine. PCM senses engine speed and shuts off fuel pump by opening ground circuit to fuel pump relay when engine stops or engine speed drops to less than 120 RPM. When ignition switch is in ON position, EEC power relay is energized (contacts closed). Power is provided to fuel pump relay and timer in PCM. Fuel pump receives power through fuel pump relay contacts.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch
All models use an electrical interrupt switch in fuel system. During a collision or vehicle rollover, electrical contacts within inertia switch open, shutting off fuel supply to electric fuel pump. Fuel supply is interrupted even when engine is running.
A reset button is located on switch assembly. If electrical circuit trips, vehicle will not restart until switch is reset. Fuel system should be inspected before resetting switch.
IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.
----------- If the fuel pump relay, the inertia switch and fuel pump all checked ok, and fuel pump is working with direct 12 volt source to fuel pump. Then problem relates to computer. The computer (power control module, PCM) is faulty and has to be replaced.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Low fuel pressure on neon 2003,have change fuel pump, but pressure is low can start if tank is full

Hi.

Check the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. They are part of the same assembly and are located on top of the fuel pump. To replace the regulator # Disconnect fuel supply line at the Filter/Regulator nipple and releas locking spring tab (2 in diag.) on the regulator, then turn counterclockwise and pull out. To test regulator use a gauge like this in fuel lines:Pump Pressure Tester.
Pressure in 2003 should be 58psi (48 in 2001 engines). Pressure will drop of about ten psi when you start engine.

There is also an automatic shut down relay ASR. If problem is the ASR the pressure will go down when the relay cuts off power to pump. Read voltages and see if the problem is electrical first before going for the regulator.

How does the feul pump relay works?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
The fuel pump relay regulates the power given to the fuel pump. If the fuel pump relay is faulty there will be no power to the fuel pump and will result to fuel supply failure. These relays just like the others serves as regulators so that the battery will not fail during electrical loads.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

My 93 cougar like sputters when running. no power, and idles real hard. what could this be?

I'm guessing fuel pump is going. Check for 40 PSI pressure with fuel pressure gauge. Check in engine comaprtment.
Section 10-01: Fuel Tank, Filters, Lines and Electric Fuel Pump 1995 Thunderbird, Cougar Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Fuel Pump, Electric The electric fuel pump:
  • Is part of the fuel pump module.
  • Is located in an internal reservoir in the polyethylene fuel tank (9002) .
  • Is mounted with its inlet at the bottom of the reservoir.
  • Is designed to increase satisfactory pump operation during extreme vehicle maneuvers and steep climbs with low fuel levels.
  • The high-pressure fuel pump module on the 3.8L SFI and 4.6L-2V engines can supply 60 liters (15.9 gal) of fuel per hour at a working pressure of 269.0 kPa (39 psi).
  • The fuel pump module on the 3.8L SC SFI engine can supply 125 liters (29.0 gal) at the same rate and pressure.
  • The fuel pump module has an internal check valve to maintain pressure in the system after the engine is shut down.
  • The fuel pump module also has an internal release valve to provide protection from too much pressure if fuel flow becomes clogged in the fuel filter (9155) , the fuel line is damaged, or other factors.
  • Overpressure is limited to 850 kPa (123 psi) and reduced fuel flow will result if the pressure relief valve is activated.
  • The fuel pump module is protected at its inlet by a nylon fuel filter element (9365) which filters contaminants which could plug or damage fuel pump components.
  • The fuel filter element simultaneously allows passage of small quantities of water which may accumulate within the tank reservoir.
  • The electrical system has a fuel pump control relay in the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) which provides power to the fuel pump module through an inertia fuel shutoff switch (IFS switch) (9341) that is normally closed.
  • The electrical system provides power to the fuel pump module through two relays:
    • Fuel pump power relay.
    • PCM power relay.
The current path depends on operating conditions.
  • When the ignition switch (11572) is OFF, contacts of both relays are open.
  • When the ignition switch is first turned to RUN, the PCM power relay energizes and closes its contacts.
  • Power is sent to the fuel pump relay and a timing device in the powertrain control module .
  • The fuel pump module runs through the contacts of the fuel pump relay.
  • If ignition switch is not turned to START, the timing device in the powertrain control module will open ground Circuit 57 after about a second.
  • Opening the ground circuit deenergizes the fuel pump relay, which opens its contacts and de-energizes the fuel pump.
  • The circuitry provides pre-pressurization of the fuel system.
  • When the ignition switch is turned to START, the powertrain control module operates the fuel pump relay to provide fuel while cranking.
  • After the engine starts and the ignition switch is ON, power to the fuel pump module is again supplied through the fuel pump relay. The powertrain control module senses engine speed and shuts the fuel pump module OFF by opening the ground circuit to the fuel pump relay when the engine stops or is below 120 rpm.
