This sounds like you might have a bad alternator. If you can get the car to an auto parts store, some will test the charging system and battery for no charge (call ahead before you go).
A car's engine can run for a little while with battery supplying the spark, etc. After that drains down, it will sputter out or just quit.

This could be a number of things. When you mentioned electrical power, it made me think of alternator.
The main things I would check are for slack in the engine belts, (especially near the alternator), fuel pump electrical continuity (pretty involved), and fuel pressure.
