I would suggest purchasing a factory service manual. They have every single nut and bolt listed in this manual. Here is one on ebay for a great price:

Otherwise you can get a haynes manual at any auto store but they are not as complete and near the same price.
Thanks,

Just about any part store has a haynes manual for about $25
SOURCE: check engine light reset for 2001 ford escape
On any car 1996 or newer after a repair is made the memory in the computer has to be cleared the light will not go away by itself. The proper way to clear this is with a scanner or code reader but if you dont have any other way unhooking the battery will force the computer to loose all its memory and start all over and the light will go away. If the light returns after a few days you still have a problim.

could you have a low or odd sized tire on the car? have you bumped a sensor? Is the light on?
SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape
B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter
You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks
