1st , you will have to use a 13-15" metric size socket, with a 3/8 drive ratchet, or suitable size wrench, to hold back onto the tensioner to release the serpentine belt, once this is done, then take the appropiate size socket and ratchet and remove the bolt that holds the idler pulley to the engine, once the pulley is removed, then install the new one , tighten it good , and then route the serpentine belt, and then hold back on the tensioner , while getting belt in postion , for tensioner to hold it, and once the belt is in postion, then release the tensioner onto the belt, and make sure that the belt is evenly and correctly routed , before starrting up the engine.

Remove belt and center bolt from pulley. It may be a left handed bolt.

if you line up the marks before removal you can get it withouy the tools
SOURCE: Changing idler pulley
you can change it by releasing tension on the pulley arm(as if changing the belt) and then unsecuring the idler arm pulley by means of a large bolt in the center of the pulley, usually reverse threaded. Pulleys cost about 10 bucks, but good bearings don't come cheap.

It's a T-40 size, but I removed the bolt by first removing the bracket holding the pulley--I assume you're talking about the alternator idler pulley, the one right below the alternator. The bracket is held in place by three 14 mm bolts which I was able to reach from the top of the engine (after removing the black plastic air tube). I then put the bracket in a vise and "buzzed" off the 14 mm nut using an electric impact wrench ($30 +/- from Heartland of America). Be careful when putting the nut back on--the impact wrench will likely be too much torque!
SOURCE: my idler pulley is making a squeaky light grinding niose.
belt dressing / new belt / but the grinding means the idler puller is going to grenade soon and you wont have any belt on it so go buy a new idler and change it right away or you risk the engine overheating by not turning the water pump .if it's grinding greasing the old one wont do much help .damage is already done in the bearing .and there sealed bearings . you just throw away the old 1.
