98 suburu forester auto transmission oil temp light is on and blinking even when car is cold- a shop checked actual temp of the oil and said it was in normal range. Car also occasionally binds up in slow turns since light is on

  • elizabethros Apr 01, 2009

I have a 98 Forester too and the other day my RPM's shot up to 4 and it wouldn't go above 20 mph. This has only happened once before and I thought it was a fluke but now it is happening whenever I drive my car for more than an hour and the AT OIL TEMP light comes on and starts flashing. I am not sure what it means though. It has only happened before when the car or outside is hot but today everything was cool and the same thing happened. Not sure what to do. Anyone know??

Look at your transmission pan to see if it is dented by the drain plug. because what happens someone will jack up the transmission by the pan and dents it and the pan is actually hiting the selunoid and causing it to blink like that so you will have to change the selunoid cause it is broke fixed one myself that had that issue

Have a 2002 4 wheel drive gmc.when I used to get up.to 55.now truck would only go into gear when its cold.but still birnx out when its cold mechani. Shop said transmission needs to be rebuilt.

have the fault codes read
take it to an accredited auto transmission shop (assumed it is an auto ) and get a proper diagnosis first and quotes
if the shop didn't bother with the codes to make the box suggestion then I would go to the accredited auto specialist shop
as with some gmc products the manufacturer does not recommend a transmission oil change for the auto, I would check the condition of the oil first as a oil change and filter clean may be all that is needed take the cheap option first

Why does my 2001 subaru forester overdrive light keep blinking

A flashing light means the transmission has a problem that prevents the overdrive from working.
You would need to have a shop check it out.

Unknown warning light

Check you fluid levels on the car. Oil and transmission can turn this light on. Check the oil while car is off and transmission while the car is on.

1998 Subaru Forester

Would need to know more. Did the 'check engine' light come on about the time you first noticed this happening? If so, have the code checked for diagnosis. I would suspect FUEL TRIM error (or similar) in the computer compensating the fuel injection when the car is put in gear versus in Park or Neutral when cold.
