Check compression and timing. Then check sensors(MAF, oil pressure sensor). Don't crank engine too long. Cranking engine may pour a lot of petrol into your engine oil.

Should be a 318i, what is the year? Have you checked relays, and depending on the year, these cars have ews modules that is a bit tricky to bypass. Unless your experienced at this on BMWs do not bypass ignition system. Hook the system back up using the factory key and try again.
Locate diagnostic socket (it's in engine area). Take a piece of wire and short pin numbered 7 to the chasis ground. Turn on ignition key and wait for about 5 seconds. Oil service indicator lamps should go off and 5 green sectors should light up. Swich off ignition, remove jump wire from diagnostic socket.
BMW SERVICE RESET Take a small wire, paperclip, or elect wire and bend like a horseshoe. No light or equipment necessary Open the diagnostic data port, the one were the little pacman centre is located. Turn the ignition to position 2, don?t start. Connect pin 7 always first and then pin 19. Hold for 4 seconds. Remove wire and settings will be reset. Warning if you hold the wire longer than 10 seconds you may reset inspection intervals 1 and 2. I?ve done this twice and it definitely work on my E36
