Your fuel cutoff switch on these engines are located on the fuel pump itself right by the injector lines and takes an 8mm wrench on the nut for the wire.

My volvo FL10 sometimes cuts out whilest driving?

NO YEAR TOLD OR cOUNTRY OR ENGINE TOLD. (HARD CASE)
1985 to 2013?

not car, but is a huge heavy truck, we don;t have huge truck forum here. 12 to 21 TON rated. 9 ton load.
10 liter engine diesel . TD102

FL" stands for "Forward Control" and "Low-level Cab".[1] The FL6 and the larger FL7 and FL10 appeared in the summer of 1985.
sold until , year, ? IDK

my wild wild guess is a bad FUEL Pump.
or filters bad, or bad fuel, or lost pump prime. (air in lines or sucked in) injector failing. intermittently.

cuts out has huge list of causes. (fuel or lost DC power)
sure electric
sure lots of other causes
only tests done prove the pudd'n
cuts out means what>? engine stall ?
stalls fast, or slow.
engine misfires first (shake?)
or just bogs slow and stalls nice and easy stall.?

do any other electrics fail same time ,like head lamps, IP cluster goes dead, heater blower dies., radio dies. or?

150 hp Turbo Diesel engine will not shut off using the kill switch. Any idea on what the problem could be?

I obviously am not familiar with the application here but petrol engines have an electrical ignition system that can simply be turned off to stop the engine. However diesels have super high compression that causes the ignition. Diesels with mechanical fuel systems will continue running until the fuel is shut off or the engine is stalled. The fuel is usually supplied to the injector pump through a solonoid valve where an electrical supply is needed to open the valve and the valve springs shut when the supply is removed. The fault is 90% in my mind associated with the this fuel shut off valve. However there is another way that a diesel engine can find fuel to not allow it to stop. A turbo seal failure can atomise engine oil into the inlet manifold and the engine will continue running until all the is used up.

How do I build/repair a damaged wiring harness for a 1984 VW Jetta GL 1.6L non-turbo diesel 5 speed, manual steering?

You could try to just cut out the bad part and solder in the new wire to the good part of the old. Also clean up the affected area.

How to prime fuel system 1985 6.2 L diesel

There should be a bleeder next to the fuel filter, either on top or on the side...start by cranking you motor a few times and stop...then open the bleeder...you should hear some air and maybe see some diesel fuel come out...next shut the bleeder and crank motor again.....repeat the process untill you have a steady flow of diesel fuel with out air....close bleeder and your good to go...

I have a 5 Speed 1985 Volkswagen Diesel Jetta...It will turn over and sound like it's going to fire but won't. Glow plugs? Any suggestions..?

The diesel is quite a simple system. Just fuel and compression. No ignition to worry about. However there are a few things to look at.

If you have the glow light going on and turning off to confirm heat at the cylinder then it is not a glow plug. Even quite cold is should start after a few turns as the compression builds.

Fuel. Pull the fuel supply from the connection at the first injector (right hand side). Turn the engine over. If you have fuel there then it is not fuel.
If no fuel then you have a problem with the fuel pump or filter. Filter is on the lift side of the engine near the air filter. Loosen a line and check for fuel entering an exiting the filter. It should have flow in and out.

If you have fuel to the fist injector then you most likely have a compression problem. That is a head gasket. If a head goes on a diesel the compression is not high enough to ignite the fuel.

This is where I'd start looking. If I can help further just ask.

Please rate this answer.

Thanks, Adrian
