Flushing the radiator isn't all that difficult. Most flushes have instructions right on the container.
All you need to do is add the flush to the system, run the engine for as long as the instructions say.
After running the engine, I generally remove the lower hose where it connects with the engine and let it drain from there (larger chunks of debris don't come through the regular drain very well). Be careful removing the hose. Don't do it 'till the engine cools down a bit and be careful not to get any in your face and definitely rinse your hands off right away because the flush chems are caustic.
After using the chemicals, fill the system with water (some chem kits use a neutralizer if so, add that)
run the engine and repeat. Drain and re-fill two more times to get any remaining flush out.
You can also remove the two heater hoses...run a garden hose into either end to remove debris in the heater core.
Once everything is back together, fill the system with 50/50 mix of antifreeze and check the mixture with a hydrometer (cheap ones are available at parts stores).
When re-filling, run the heater on high heat. It's best to shut the engine off just before it reaches normal temp and wait about five minutes. That allows the thermostat to open. Then re-start and continue filling.
Some engines have bleed screws at different locations. (check chilton or haynes manuals for location of those). Bleed screws permit trapped air to leave the system.
Be aware...If the engine previously overheated it could have caused your head gasket(s) to fail.
If you have steam from the tailpipe, coolant in the engine oil or oil in the coolant (any of these...they all don't always happen) have the system checked for hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are combustion products and if found in the cooling system it indicated HG failure...combustion gasses will collect in the heater and prevent it from working.
If your engine isn't overheating but the heater isn't working, try running the engine with the cap removed and follow re-fill instructions I provided... thesystem may not be obstructed but may be air bound.

2005 gmc savanna van...cooling system will not blow hot heat. water pump, heater core, radaitor and thrmostate replaced. is there any electrical problems/

don't know this van specifically, but some things to check, make sure cabin filter is replaced or clean, you didn't say if the blower itself works, if not, correct or replace. Check the hoses going to the heater core, if hot water is flowing thru the core, both hoses should be hot. Check the heater controls to make sure doors in the system are opening closing as they should, you may just be drawing in cold air and not going thru the heater core.

1996 nissan altima no cabin heat, new radiator, flushed and filled, top hose hot, lower hose cold, newer thermostat checked good

HI Anon.
Remove your radiator cap (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD), run the motor and let it warm up a minute or two, have someone rev the engine a little while looking into the radiator. If the water goes down and/or you see the water moving, your water pump is good. If not this means that your water pump is bad and is not moving enough water through the system. Try Removing your thermostat and run the engine without it. Keep checking the radiator hoses to see if they are the same temperature. If they are not the same temperature the water pump is bad. If they are the same temperature your thermostat is more than likely the culprit. Hope this helps.

No heat , replaced radiator , water pump, rad. cap , hoses and flushed system twice.blows cool air.whats left?

Thermostat.? if you haven't? Do it first then try it. While the car is running for a while touch the heater hoses that lead to the firewall. if one is cold and one is hot? You have a blocked Heater core. Follow the hoses back to the engine. Unconnect them both. By using a garden hose flush out the heater core do one side and then reverse by doing the other hose Lots of junk will come out so be care ful. Mistake people make is "Flushing the system" That doesn't mean your flushing the heater core.
Seeing that you have done everything else it could be the thermostat which you didn't list or the heater core being clogged. When you finished installing the thermostat and flushing the heater core out. Replenish the coolant system . If you have a bleeder on the thermostat housing? use it . loosen it and top off the fluid until you see fluid comeout of the bleeder. The system being air bound would cause no heat..

Ok, g35 coupe 06,52k miles Had over heating problem in april 2010,replaced thermostat, all's well. Now Jan 2011 overheating again, noticed upper & lower radiator hoses collapse, changed thermostat...

Heres a couple of things you can check. Start your car and remove the radiator cap,(before it gets hot mind you) when it reaches norm operating temp, look inside radiator to see if water is circulating. If its not moving, its a bad water pump. Also, youre hoses should never collapse, if they collapse when they get hot maybe you need new hoses? Finally, if those dont work, flush out your radiator. Open the bottom cockpit and use a garden hose and let it flush out the system while the car is running, about 10 mins should do the trick. If the radiator looks clean inside then it doesnt need flushed.

The call will not conistently blow hot air into the cabin of the car. Water pump and thermostat have been replaced, the two hoses that go into the firewall: one is hot, one is cold/luke warm. I have...

The system is not entirely pugred yet. check your coolant level in the radiator if you can, fill as necessary, same for the resevoir. If you have any purge vales in the system. start the car and open them until coolant comes out, do this a couple of times to check for trapped air. be careful of hot coolant.

The heat in my 1992 Jeep Wangler is not working.

The only reason it won't blow hot air is because the water is not getting to the heater core. Check to see if you have a heater control valve in one of the two lines to the heater core. If so check to be sure that is is opening and closing. If it won't open then you get no water flow in to the heater core.
