We have a 1989 Buick Park Avenue with low brake pedal pressure. Checked the brake fluid, saw that it was low, and added more. Afraid we did something wrong with regards to the rubber piece that maintains the suction/pressure because after adding fluid, the pedal pressure got worse. We used the car manual instructions to add brake fluid. Any suggestions?

I doubt it has anything to do with the transmission. When the brake pads wear most have a wear sensor that drags along the rotor. Have you pulled the wheels and checked the brake pads ?
this sounds like your master cylinder has gone out, Located on the fire wall on the drivers side of the car ,, if your fluid level is good, and you detect no fluid leaks at the wheel cylinders, this is the most likely problem
make sure fluid full lid on.open bleed screw put finger over hole in end of bleeder, have someone slowly pump break pedal whule finger still on bleeder.8/10 times.should start to get fluid.top master up.open bleeder depress pedal slowly close bleeder while pedal down.release pedal and repeat.if system ran dry few more steps lrt me know.
the transmission breaking apart but in a really slow way. There's not a thing that can be done to save it. It's going to someday give out. You can prolong it by not punching on the pedal to test it. just drive it normally and DON"T get the trans oil change. Just leave it alone... I own 89 P/Ave 156,000 original owner. Same thing happened to my car and picked up a used trans at junk yard and my mechanic installed it and runs like a baby at half the price(700.00). If you go to junk yards half of the park ave are because of trans. Good luck
