CD Changer noise

Hi all, my TurboS has the CD changer in the armrest, and today I started picking up an odd clicking/beeping noise when I play CDs - the level of the noise goes up/down with the volume. The radio and tape work great, but there' that terribly annoying noise with the CD. Any ideas? Thanks!

That sounds like a bad ground wire. You may have mice eating wires. Try gently shaking the changer to see if its a loose connection. the noise will go away if its a loose connection there. if not it may need a pro to find the wire problem. if you have access to the cd changer wiring, unplug it entirely and see if the noise goes away.

Likely have a Monsoon radio system in your 2000 Beetle. The CD changer is controlled by your radio, and not any CD changer will connect to the outlet in your trunk. You can either find a CD changer on eBay (or elsewhere, or swap out your radio for a radio from a newer VW Beetle that has a CD player installed instead of the cassette. Can also find those on eBay.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 VW

Does the radio turn on and am /fm works ok? If so there is either a mechanical jambing in the player or if you have a housing disc with adhesive label may have fallen off.

You can try to reboot the system by disconnecting the battery of the car and then after 15 minutes reenter the radio code and try it again. If it doest work you will need to have the unit removed to repair it.

I remember read some TSB about some customers may comment on one of the following conditions:
• Long CD load-to-play time
• CD ejects with an error message of "CHECK CD"
• CD does not return to previous track after an ignition cycle
• Clock resets to 12:00
• CD does not play
• CD does not eject
• CD stuck in CD player
• Radio will not accept CD

Cause: a software anomaly within the radio has been found.

To solve it, will need visit your dealer.

Hope this helps.

My cd changer kept changing cd on its own. Now my battery is dead. Is the cd player the cause for the dead battery, or did the cd player malfunction because the battery was dying?

With the low current draw that a cd unit uses It would take some hours to affect a good battery. Remove the fuse for the cd unit and have a battery shop check the battery for a bad cell ( Load test on the battery). Pull the cd player and have a tecki look at it as I feel you have 2 faults not connected.

CD Changer not reading CDs

2000 bmw 528i,my cd changer also reads no cds, this seem to be a common problem with all bmw cd changer.Anyway i removed the cd changer from my car, took the outside black cover apart only to see that a white big wheel came of its place,(its the wheel that holds the cd in place from the top (bottom wheel is black attached directly to the motor,as the cd is sandwitched between the black, and white wheels) .if that wheel is out of place the cd will not turn inside the changer for the eye to read it,so your radio screen will read NO CD OR NO DISC.Very easy fix, just place the wheel in its place, and everything worked fine,it took me 20 minutes to fix.
p.s :
1- you do need to make sure you have an original cd in for testing it.
2- you do not need to recode your cd changer at the dealer if you have an old bmw, dealer will need to recode cd changers for 2006 and up.
Good luck.
