My 98 c70 has a check engine light on and it says that the engine is running lean. I have changed everything from pluga to filters to O2 sensors. It runs but it hesitates sometimes and changes gears very hard. It also dies on me sometimes if i give it too much gas.

Ok I will do. Thanks and I will get that checked also. I'll post the results from the diag.

I am planning on installing a new fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel relay in MY C70 2000 convertible this Saturday. Do I have to drop the fuel tank or can I get at the fuel pump if I leave the gas tank in and pull out the rear seat

I am gettin code P0116 and code P1132. I disconnected the plug that is on the lead coming from the water sencor that is in the thermostat housing and now the car starts. The electric fan comes on right away and the red radiator with the fan on it is still coming on but the car starts and runs fine. What is that sencor called? Is it the fluid low reed sencor? and if it is broken and giving a bad code could it cause the car not to start ot rtart hard?

Hi,
I have the C70 X reg 2.0 LPT. Last year just after a service I was touring on holiday when the Engine Emissions light came on (the orange pic of the engine) my fuel consumption went out the window the engine ran really rough especially at idle it often nearly cut out and the power generally was poor. On return we went back to Volvo and they found that the jubilee clip holding the air intake pipe below and behind the engine had snapped and the pipe had partly come off, they repaired it and this immediately solved the problem.
Hope this helps.

First off, go to AutoZone and get the code scanned. They'll do it free, and will give you the fault code. Post that up and we can take it from there.

Just to ponder - have you checked the mass airflow sensor? If it's giving erroneous reasons it can cause you to fuel the engine incorrectly.

Definitely - once you have the code, we can see what the car is telling you. When you get the code read, the code itself will be right, but their definition of the code may not be exactly correct (I came across this with my Audi). With the code, we'll find out what is going on:)

Have you checked/replaced the O2 sensor(s). They produce the data that your computer reads. Bad/clogged O2 sensors will trick the ECU into running lean/rich.

98 lincoln conttinental running lean stalling out

Check for vacuum leaks. if misfiring address the misfires as this will cause O2 sensors to detect more oxygen in the exaust system. Check you MAF sensor and clean if dirty

I have a 1997 ford contour and the diagnostic tool reads left bank lean i was told that could be the fuel filter also my check engine light is on is this normal when the fuel filter needs changing?

It is not a fuel filter. If the left bank was lean the right would be also since the complete engine is fed from a single line to the injectors. Your O2 sensor is probably throwing the code to set the check engine light. The O2 sensors control the amount of fuel fed to the engine. Most Fords use an upstream and a down stream O2 sensor. From what you are describing I am betting your vehicle has way over 100,000 miles on it. The O2 sensors start going out after this point. They are subject to heat extremes and contamination from burned oil deposits and carbon and or fuel additives that you place into your fuel tank. If the code is reading or giving you a "lean" condition more than likely your upstream O2 sensor has bit the bullet finally.

I have a 97 wrangler 2.5. Check engine light is on, running lean, loss of power and high fuel consumption. I have replaced the o2 sensors, reset check engine code. light stays off and engine runs great for...

Something odd about what you posted. An engine that is running lean shouldn't be using a lot of fuel. Lean is when there isn't enough fuel going into the engine. Two other sensors that regulate fuel flow are the map sensor and throttle position sensor. Temp sensor generally would cause a rich condition but I'd test that too. Be sure to check for vacuum leaks at the manifold and lines as well as fittings... A vacuum leak will give the O2 sensor a lean reading...seeing that, the computer will try to compensate by adding fuel. Clearing codes can change the way it's running but as soon as the computer runs through it's internal diagnostics it will turn the light back on if there is a problem.

98 windstar 3.8litre runs very rough at low revs. error message #1 bank running lean. have changed cam sensor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and fuel injectors and o2 sensor on back 3 cylinders.

probably both banks are running lean it just hasnt flagged a code for bank2 yet.
sounds like a vacuum leak, with it running listen closely in the engine compartment try to locate it.
also you can use choke cleaner and spray around the intake manifold
and try to locate the leak.
be careful choke cleaner is flamable.

I have a 99 Ford escort with the check engine light on. The diagnostic says it is running lean. I changed EGR Valve sensor and front O2 Sensor. Any advice on what to try next?

Lean condition causes go from a clogged fuel filter to a vacuum leak to a weak fuel pump.Lean means there is not enough fuel for the combustion chambers.check these items:)

98 Cavalier 2.4L engine stumbles at 2000-2500 rpm

Could be a short in the wiring for the O2 sensor.   I currently have the same issue only my car finally threw a code after two days of it acting up.  Code 106.  Changed the MAP sensor and it now throws 108, MAP sensor high voltage circuit.  Ah the joys of cold weather and broke down vehicles.  But I know that you wont always get a code with a short.  Let me know if you fixed the problem.
