If wires came off oil pressure switch or if switch went bad, it would shut down truck immediately. Your oil pressure switch performs 2 functions; oil pressure to gauge.light and it's also a safety feature that if you're in an accident or rollover, when oil pressure drops it shuts off power to fuel pump. I'd start there. The reverse is also a possibility, if fuel pump fails, truck shuts down = no oil pressure.

Will the oil sensor switch shut the engine down

Well, yes and no.
If the red oil pressure light comes on, yes the engine could stop running. You could actually lose oil pressure, or the switch could fail.
A "change oil" notice would not cause the engine to stop.

I have a Ford F350 Lariat Super Duty Diesel with the 6.0 engine. wha would cause the oil pressure to drop complete when I come to a stop but run normal when going down the road?

Your oil is under pressure as it is circulated through the engine, and at low RPM there is less pressure pumping the oil around. With the broken dipstick, I presume there is an oil-pressure leak and at normal operating speed there is enough capacity to maintain proper pressure, but the leak is more than the engine can overcome at low speed. I would suggest replacing the broken dipstick.

1998 ford explorer oil pressure

Knocking in engine and low oil pressure usually means bad main bearings. May have been caused by bad oil pump or just worn out bearings due to high mileage. If this is problem needs engine or rebuild old engine.

My 95 tahoe has an occasional ticking noise, loss of oil pressure at idle and loss of power

Prognosis is really bad, hate to tell you. Ticking comes from the valve lifters, losing lubrication due to lack of pressure and running dry. At redlights, when revs are at idle, oil pressure drops a lot, and engine really suffers. Have the vehicle taken immediately to a shop for proper diagnose and to see if engine can still be saved. The loss of power comes from the valves not actuating properly. Hydraulic lifters need oil at a decent pressure to "charge" , and if not charged, they will stay compressed, ruining valve lifting operation.

2004 lincoln avaitor oil light comes on the engine shuts down

Does the oil light come on BEFORE the engine shuts down? I have to ask because it is NORMAL for the oil light to be on when the engine is not running. I had a customer that said the same thing just last week. After we wasted a bunch of time (which the customer ended-up paying for) checking the oil level, the oil pressure, and verifying correct oil pressure gauge, light, and sending unit operation, it turned out that the crankshaft position sensor was bad and causing the engine to shut down and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the oil light - it was functioning as designed.

If the oil light is coming on before the engine shuts down, the first thing you need to do is check your oil level. If the oil level is OK, you need to check the oil pressure with a gauge to determine if there is an actual engine oil pressure problem or if the oil pressure sending unit, gauge or light is malfunctioning. Also, it is highly advisable to not drive the vehicle AT ALL if the oil pressure light is coming on while driving until the cause of the light coming on has been determined and repairs have been made. Otherwise, SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE may result.

I was driving down the road my truck started too lose power and it shut off.. i crunk it back up then started back down the road and it died . i have a brand new battery with 800 cca and it could barely...

Sounds like a cooling issue. When the engine overheats it will get so hot that the metals expand making the motor sieze. When the engine gets that hot it thins out the oil making it less dense. This will make the oil thin thus reducing pressure.
When the motor restarts after cooling you will find the oil pressure returning to 40psi
The slow cranking issue is due to the engine being hot/siezed. Theadgasket damange, valve/piston dehere are other reasons for this condition to exist, but with the engine reaching 260 degrees, I would contribute it to the overheating problem.
Quite often when a engine overheats to this extent, it can cause other serious problems; ie, head gasket damage, valve/pistion deformation crack raidator and so forth , good luck

Try replacing the oil sending unit, Some years had a fuel pump shut of built in to the switch so if the oil pressure went down it would kill fuel pump to stop engine damage. Yours may be faulty
