Hello lucasgraves,

If you have a 4.0 the crank position sensor is mounted to the transmission bell housing at the left rear side of the engine block. Left is drivers side.

If you have a 4.7 the crank position sensor is mounted into the engine block above the starter.

If you have a 2.5 the crank position sensor is mounted to the transmission bell housing at the left rear side of the engine block.

If you have a 3.7 the crank position sensor is mounted into the right rear side of the engine block.

Regards,
netvan

Take a look on the drivers side of the bellhousing, you didnt say what size motor you have. You might have to look from under the car

SOURCE: how to change crankshaft sensor jeep YJ

Raise the front of your Jeep with a jack and position a set of jack stands under the front axle to support it. Lower the jack, allowing the Jeep to rest solidly on the jack stands.

  • 2 Locate the crank position sensor in the bell housing of the Jeep from under the driver's side. Locate and remove the two retaining bolts that secure the sensor to the bell housing, using a socket and ratchet.
  • 3 Follow the wire from the sensor to the connector on the engine. Release the lock on the connector and separate the sensor wiring harness from the engine wiring harness. Remove the sensor and harness from the Jeep and discard it.
  • 4 Position the new sensor on the bell housing and install the two retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet until they are snug. Do not over-tighten these bolts or you will strip the threads out of the aluminum bell housing.
  • 5 Route the wiring harness from the sensor to the engine wiring harness and push the two connectors together until the locking tab snaps in place. Be sure to route the wiring harness away from sharp edges or heat sources.
  • 6 Raise the front of the Jeep off the jack stands with a jack then remove the stands from under the truck. Lower the jack and test the repair by starting the truck and verifying that it runs properly.

Your engine will also have a Camshaft position sensor too (P0340). This can sometimes make the Crankshaft sensor code come on (P0335). Your misfire could be down to a low oil level or faulty knock sensor. You have ruled out the possibility of it being a spark related issue. Hope this helps...

Why wont my 95jeep grand cherokee6cyl turnover when cranking? I have gas powerand at times when driving it would shut-off why is this happening

Jeeps have a known problem of a crank shaft position sensor going bad. It's a sensor that works off rotation of the crank. to know where and what position it's in. The part is about $55 and it's located by the front of the transmission where it meets the engine block. Very easy to change. I've changed a few on Jeeps and they had the same problem with the Jeep shutting down going down the road. After a few days to 2 weeks it will go completely out and leave you stranded. So I" advise to get it fixed ASAP. "Crank Shaft Position Sensor"

Where is the crank shaft positioning sensor located on a 01' Cherekee Sport with a 4 liter? What are the symptoms of a faulty Crank shaft positioning sensor?

Look at the area around the crankshaft pulley. It's bolted to the block and senses the crank position. If it fails, You won't have an ignition spark. Good Luck, Ned
