Call the reimbursement department so they can start a recall... 1800-204-0261 we have the same promblem and they wont do a recall unless they get more complaints!!
I had been to many dealerships trying to get my car fixed...key keeps sticking in ignition.....well today I picked it up again and the case seems to be closed. They replaced the BTSI switch which is an automatic transmission shift lock control. It was 154.00. Before it was figured out I used a method to get the key out and it's what helped get the right answer......when your key sticks turn off the radio and keep quiet. Now softly press the "large button" on the front of your shifter knob. You will hear a clicking sound. One click means that the system did not release, press again and again until you hear 2 clicks. At 2 clicks the key will come right out. My friend's husband who is an auto engineer figured out that part for me just recently. I had the the ignition parts replaced 2 yrs ago, it took 3 yrs to get to fixed. If your power steering goes out like mine did, that is more expensive.
Saturn Ion key stuck and motor wont turn off. Solution: Disconnect Neg. battery terminal and then remove Gas Relay Fuse to shut the motor off. If you do the repair yourself, you need to remove the Ignition Cylinder, which is most likely the problem. Much of the dash panel parts will have to be removed. There is a thin aluminum plate (1/4in x 3/4in) that retains the the tumblers of the cylinder. This has probably come loose and needs to be resecured. My first repair, by the Saturn Service was accomplished with super glue. When this happened a year later, we were able to use a hammer and small punch to secure the little aluminum peice. Your other option is to buy a new cylinder at about $85. There is a way to adapt the new cylinder to your key that you can search out on the web, or take the car to a locksmith. Additionally, after you have cut the motor off, if you need to get it going to take the car to a mechanic, reconnect the fuse and battery terminal.
I have had this problem twice now. The first time my car was about three years old. Now it happened again today. I am going to have to contact GM and have them fix it again. I have a stick shift so I can stall the car to stop it but it doesn't stop the panel lights to stay on. Plus I have to leave the key in the car and pray no one steals my car.
I can't find a BTSI or Auto trans shift lock control on any Saturn parts books or in any manual, do you have something that actually shows this part?

I know these post are old but the answer to the key being stuck in the ignition is simple .
There is a lil plug right under the ignition cylinder if you take it out and stick your index finger in there u will feel a lil spring loaded button push it towards the driver side door and turn the key to pull it out this is a release mechanism to unlock the cylinder very simple to do dosen't require no effort at all
My kids car has the same issue, I replaced the cylinder and coded it to the original key, everything went together fine, but same problem, I tried the shift release button a few times and it did work about 50% of the time, I will now try the BTSI switch which is an automatic transmission shift lock control. Thats the only thing it can be unless it's in the ignition switch assy, but I doubt it. And I agree with the other guy, Solution #1-----BITE ME!!!

We disconnected the battery and were able to remove key but ignition still in place as if it were on. Can we repair ourselves?
My Saturn Ion won't stop running. The key is stuck in the ignition also.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion and the key gets stuck in the ignition and the car will not turn off! What CAN I DO!!!????????!!!!??????!?!?!?!??!??????????
my key is stuck in the switch, and it will not turn the engine off, please help me. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SATURN!!!!!!!!
I know most of these post are a year old now but I was just wondering if anyone has found any solutions. Our 2006 Saturn Ion 2 is doing the exact same thing! Ignition won't turn off! This is extremely frustrating considering that my son just purchased this car a couple months ago as his first vehicle and the warranty is now up because he couldn't afford an extended warranty. I was really hoping that since I have seen the exact same problem in several forums that maybe someone was able to do something about this.
My mother's is at the dealer right now for this problem; we had it fixed last July when it happened the first time. It's also a 2006 although she has just less than 6,000 miles on it!!. Going to share this with the dealer and see what response is. We have an 86 yr old woman now with a car she's afraid to drive.
