Error code that says lean fuel. Injectors were checked and everything was ok. However, code continues to come on. Could this be an oxygen sensor problem? Also, transmission went out and was rebuilt. Now it is not changing into 3/4th gear. They replaced one of the solenoids and a valve plate but still not changing gear. Now they want to change a knock sensor. Could this also stem from a oxygen sensor instead?

Took the car to the dealership. $116.20 later after a computer system check. I have a knock sensor that is bad as well as a air flow meter problem. Knock sensor repair (cheapest pricing) was $684.91 for parts and labor. The air flow meter......my husband thinks he can fix so maybe just the price of the part.

Yes the airflow meter is very easy, it is in the air intake hose to the engine from the air cleaner. Boy those Japanese car makers really take you to the cleaners on repairs, that repair on a GM car would have been 1/2 that amount.

SOURCE: 95 Lexus ES 300 check engine light is on and the overdrive off light is flashing

chances are you don't have to replace the computer. the reason i tell you this is because you did not mention that the car is running lousy. no complaints of rough idle or missfire or hard starting. chances are that your engine speed sensor which sends the signal to the computer which then controls the transmission is most likely the culprit.. and it could just bhe that there is a loose connection between the two. if that is ok then your transmission control module is faulty. this is not the main computer, but the gobetween the trans and the ecm.. hope this helps please rate this...thanks(btw....the knock sensors control timing not the trans mission)

You replaced the wrong sensor. Here is a link that can further explain how to trouble shoot this problem http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t14194.html

Check for Vacuum hose for leak, crack or blocked first then, Vacuum switch Valves for vapor pressure sensor next to the Evaporator Charcoal Canister rear of the fuel tank. Charcoal Canister crack or damage. But mostly likely Charcoal Canister and vapor pressure sensor replacment. Tell us the result.

SOURCE: check engine light on, replaced oxygen sensor before catalyst,

  • Water or corrosion in the connector
  • Loose terminals in the connector
  • Wiring burnt on exhaust components
  • Open or short in the wiring due to rubbing on engine components
  • Holes in exhaust allowing unmetered oxygen into exhaust system
  • Unmetered vacuum leak at the engine
  • Bad o2 sensor
  • Bad PCM

The computer says that number one bank is running lean how do I correct that

A lean code means there is too much oxygen in the exhaust as detected by an oxygen sensor. This could be due to several possible issues. 1.) You could have a bad oxygen sensor, 2.) you could have a broken exhaust manifold and it's letting in air (oxygen), 3.) you have sticky injectors that aren't allowing proper amounts of fuel into the cylinders. If you have no power issues and acceleration and driving seems normal, it probably isn't injectors. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a broken exhaust manifold. Only found it when up on a lift. Oxygen sensors are relatively inexpensive, so replacing them won't cost too much.

What do code p1131 mean on a Lincoln Continental 2002

Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch Sensor Indicates Lean Bank 1
In simple terms, it means the engine computer is not "seeing" the O2 sensor switch from rich to lean like it should be doing.
When the O2 sensor switches to lean the computer makes the injectors open more to let in more fuel, until the sensor switches to rich.

Code P2187

code p2187 refers to system too lean at idle bank 1==causes -fuel pressure--injectors--intake leak
It also refers to adaptive heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) control bank 1- no signal==causes--wiring--HO2S--ECM. Have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check for pump/regulator filter problems and check the wiring for the oxygen sensor or the sensor itself.

P0131 sabb 93 2001 po121 error codes

P0131 - O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 (sensor is before the catalytic converter)

Possible causes- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
P0132 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1
Possible causes- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks

I am not really sure what is going on here with the same O2 sensor giving these lean and rich codes, if nothing else is apparent and the engine runs well you may have a defective O2 sensor.

I have a code reader and the code is P0171 P0174 System too lean. what makes the system too lean?

P0171 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 1
Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

P0174 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

What Causes These Codes: Fuel injection system does not operate properly. The amount of mixture ratio compensation is too large. (The mixture ratio is too rich.) The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the engine Air/Fuel mixture ratio, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The PCM calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios. In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the PCM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the engine light. The codes is usually set when there is an intake leak after the air flow meter, before replacing any parts check for loose or broken hoses and intake gasket leak. On Ford some models dirty air filter, and dirty or faulty air flow sensor are the cause of the problem.
