These are a real pain in the rear. The headlight assembly that makes them move is plastic and breaks easily. I've spent 1200.00 replacing one only to have both go out in 6 months. Hitting a pot hole will break them. They sell the whole assembly. I ended up finding a fix online with a 2.00 screw to hold them in the proper place and had a local body shop do the fix for me. They agreed that it was a huge waste of money to buy the whole assembly only for it to break again. There is a positioning port at the top of them, but you have to have a Jag dealer adjust it or it will strip out if you try using just a screw driver.
All Jaguar X type headlight bulbs are H-1. Any auto parts store will carry it. No matter the quality, just ask for H-1. What you want to spend depends on you.
1. Locate the bolts holding the bumper cover in place. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts, allowing you to pull the cover down. Then take off the bolts securing the headlight assembly and pull out the entire assembly from the car. 2. Squeeze the retaining clip on the washer hose with a pair of pliers and pull it back, then pull the hose off. Next, unplug the electrical connector. 3.Unbolt the headlight washer motor with your socket wrench to gain access to the bulb. Pull the bulb straight out and take it to a Jaguar dealer or the local auto-parts shop to purchase a replacement bulb. 4.Reassemble the light assembly in the reverse order. Plug in the new bulb, re-bolt the washer motor, plug in the electrical cord and reattach the hose and retaining clip. Finally, re-bolt the headlight assembly and the bumper cover. 5.Turn the car on and switch the lights on to test the newly installed bulb.
Inspect/Replace-I don't think that removing the bumper is necessary.
There can be slight variations in procedure from one model to another when replacing headlights. For instance, on some models the turn signal light assembly must be removed before the headlight can be replaced. Overall, however, the procedure does not differ much from the following typical instructions. Make sure the replacement bulb is the same type and part number as the one that is being replaced.
Comparing the old and ther replacement headlamps.
To Replace:
Remove the headlight bezel retaining screws. Remove the bezel. If necessary, disconnect the turn signal lamp wires.
Remove the retaining ring screws from one or both lights.
Remove the retaining rings.
Remove the light from the housing. Disconnect the wiring connector from the back of the light.
Push the wiring connector onto the prongs at the rear of the new light.
Place the new light in the headlight housing. Position it so the embossed number in the light lens is on the top.
Place the retaining ring over the light and install the retaining ring screws. Tighten them slightly.
Check the aim of the headlight and adjust it, if necessary.
Install the headlight bezel. Secure it with the retaining screws.
Connect the turn signal lamp wiring (if it was disconnected).
do you know what H type of bulbs you have? some are just a twist other have a clip that needs to be pressed and let fold down to allow bulb removal.
in the engine comartment behind where the headlight are there are either rubber boots or clips that need to be removed to expose the back on the buld. remove the retaining clip as mentioned above or gently twist he bulb to remove it. now remove the old bulb from its holding wire.
when inserting the new bulb do not touch the glass as oil from the skin and disrupt its performance. reverse the removal process and do the same on the other side.
NOTE: the new bulbs elements are in a slightly different postion in the bulb than the old ones (no two bulbs are exactly alike) for best visibilty have you headlight realligned after bulb replacement.
