2003 bmw 320d smoking exhaust did run out of diesel last week driving to italy saturday think its ok

could it be the edr valve or something had a freelander td4 had similar prob

Chances are you picked up some s..t from the bottom of the tank,use some injector cleaner when you next top up with diesel,should clear the smoking problem.

thanks had service yesterday still a little smokey plenty of power when foot down little bit chuggy when only giving little gas

they should have put the computer on when servicing so the edr would have shown up.DID THEY......

Coolant is getting into one of the cylinders of engine , head gasket , a crack in the cylinder head or engine block !

When i start in the morning my 320d bmw litlbit smoke and engine shaking.after 5-10 minit when wom up then ok evre thing,please can let me know what is the problem???thank you.

perhaps some water condensation in the empty tank that then caused the smoke and shaking during warming up.

Refill with good branded Diesel a full tank and have a drive for 30 mins possibly warming at high revs (or low gear to warm faster)

No, it is not safe to drivbe with black smoke comign out of the exhaust. More harm that good.

320d bmw - dde light on, black smoke from exhaust. is it safe to continue driving

Why is it you guys are not letting us know your names lately? The DDE warning light is related to the Digital Diesel Electronic injection system, hence the black smoke, as the management system is injecting too much fuel into the combustion chambers. Take the vehicle for a digital diagnostic scan. Safer to find out the actual problem before continuing with it on the road. Regards John
