Hello. I really hope you can help me. You see the driver side door has a latch that once you close the door it will connect to the hook that is on the side of the door. However, the latch somehow moved and now it is blocking the door from closing. What can I do?

With the door open and unlocked, put something like a screwdriver into the hole of the latch (the part that closes on the pillar striker). Open the door handle while appling outward pressure on the latch, it should open fully, and work normally again.

Latch is locked door is open

if its a side(drivers) door latch pull the door handle and using a screw driver, insert it were the striker plate would be with the door closed and pull the latch claws out apart. then lube the latch mechanism really well.

I cannot close driver side door on my 97 jeep grand cherokee, drivers side is in locked position, door will not close

Just a suggestion as I have seen this before--with door open pull up on outside handle and in door there is a curved latch that can be pulled open with a screwdriver---the hook is likely closed and with opening pressure on the outside handle you should be able to snap it open so the door will close properly---often happens if someone snaps it by accident closed (the hook latch).

Driver door won't close 1999 ford contour

Drivers side door will not close because, it might have dropped out of alignment and is sagging down slightly!!! or if it has electric door locks, and someone in the family has failed to mention door locks were activated while that one door was still open!!! now lock mechanism has passed it's normal stopping place and is now stuck, therefore already locked and not allowing door to close all the way!! you might try disconnecting battery then try jiggling the lock, and hope silenoid didn't get burned out, open passenger door and look at lock latch, then check drivers side lock latch!!! if your lucky lock latch should unlock when battery is hooked back up. i have seen this problems happen often on older vehicles!!! especially on cars or trucks that have been in fender benders.........body shops know what to check for, they fix problems like this often!!!!! Good luck!!

Need to replace door latch on 2001 cavalier drivers side, how do you remove the latch? The rods coming from the door handles hook through the arms coming off the latch

Hello, I think I know your problem and I can help. The rods are attached with little plastic fasteners that "swing away" to release the rods. I am sending you a picture of a typical fastener, if you look at it you will see a square channel with one side open. The open part is where you unsnap it. It's a tight squeeze but you can reach in and unsnap the connectors to free the latch, then just remove the bolts holding the latch to the door. When you go to put it all back together, I find it's easier to unbolt the outside door handle and push everything up and out the hole to give room to connect the fasteners. Once everything is connected just slip it all down and bolt the latch to the door and bolt the outside handle back. I hope this helps you with your problem, if not feel free to ask anything else that might help, good luck. fc85c18.jpg

Driver side door on 1995 chevy express van will not shut

Chances are the door latch has closed without the door being closed.

Inspect the latch mechanism on the door. I suspect you will find that the latch is in the closed position.

Use a screw driver to take place of the normal jam pin in the latch apply tension ( like the tension that would be present normally opening the door) and actuate the door handle.

Make sure to lubricate once you do get the latch to open.

Door will not close the clasp will not open

With the door open and the door unlocked, put a screw driver in the latch on the door. Pull it up and depress the door open handle at the same time. the door latch will return to the open position. Release the door handle button and close the door.

If that is unclear, imagine the llatch to look like a hook that grabs the round metal post mounted on the car door post. the hook is down as if it thinks it is closed so it blocks itself. By getting that 'latch hook to go back up it will allow you to close the door thus resting itself to operate normally again.

Hope that helps.

My rear driver side door won't stay latched. If I get a latch from the junk yard for a 1995 Deville will a fleetwood door latch work? Also for the window motor on the driver side front door will they...

Have a close look at the door latch and see if it is in the lock position. If it is, pull the door handle like your going to open the door and place a screw driver or a pen in the latch and pull it open and then try to close the door and see if the latch holds the door close. The chances are good since most GM products are interchange able, the salvage Yard should answer that for you and can tell you better short cuts then any body on how to replace parts. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to help.
